CPUs

How many CPUs are in a 2003 MZ6? Mine has ~87K miles and has been running wierd since May. An intake gasket and coil were replaced but it still had issues. Twice in Sept. while driving highway speeds their was an unexplained loss of power with the check engine, AT lights coming on. I would turn the engine off and on, and the car would run fine with the check engine light still on. I was told it was a computer problem. The dealer then narrowed it to a corroded wire at the battery junction box and repaired it. It was back to the dealer 3 days later and now I'm being told it's an electrical problem between the computers and each one will need to be replaced to determine which one is faulty. And they are telling me my car suffered a high voltage surge, probably lightening, but I do not recall any specific event happening of that magnitude. Is there any other reason this may be happening?

I'm not buying it. Someone who is more familiar with electricity, please, correct me if I'm wrong. If it were a direct strike from lightning there would be a mark on your paint / clearcoat of some sort. You would probably notice even if you weren't around when it occurred. If it wasn't a direct strike, your car is not grounded to anything, so there is no way for the electricity to pass through your vehicle (assuming you still run on rubber tires).

Now the corroded wire could cause some electrical anomalies. I would blame the corroded wire for causing the faulty computer before I said anything about lightning.

I'm curious what evidence they found to prove that a "high voltage" event happened on your car. Not to get to far into conspiracy theory, but it almost sounds like they are trying to get out of replacing the computer under warranty.

If lightning struck your car you would notice a mark on the car somewhere, if it can turn sand into glass i'm sure it will mark your paint good.

Just my 2 cents

I think they just trying to scam you out of your warranty

I contacted my auto ins. company and they sent out an examiner to determine if lightening was an issue; it wasn't. There were no marks or other modules/CPUs affected. In the last week I have racked up 10 hours of labor to diagnose the problem; fixing the corroded wire at the batter junction box did not solve the problem. Dealer has apparently narrowed the malfunction to the traction control module and that will be replaced today or tomorrow. If that doesn't fix the problem does anybody want to buy a MZ6 really cheap?

I am reading through the examiner/appraiser's report. Is a module equivilent to a central processing unit (CPU)?
