So I finally got my cp-e catted downpipe installed...big thanks to street unit for extremely fast shipping...also to the guys at cp-e for making a wonderful product...and also to my technician who installed it...he only charged me $100 and has NEVER touched a mazdaspeed 3 before...but was able to knock it out in 2 hours flat!!!

Enough rambling...onto the pictures!

The adventure begins! Downpipe packed in my trunk ready to go to the shop!

Gorgeous welds on the high flow catalytic converter...great job CP-E!

I guess the newer downpipes come with hangers that are crossed...this is the new cast bell mouth version

Close up of the flex section and beautiful welds

Extra wideband o2 bung and plug added at no extra cost! This is great for those hardcore tuners

At the shop, ready to slap this bi+ch on!

Empty exhaust tunnel. Cross brace has been removed as well

View from under the car with stock down pipe removed...looks like one turbo stud came off during the install

Ugly POS stocker next to the beautiful CP-E catted piece...heatshields and misc nuts on the side

One more, I promise :)

Impressions you say? Well lets just say I did not reset the ecu by removing the neg cable...however from a quick test drive around town...the exhaust tone is definitely louder...not by that much...but it might be too much for some people...it's "alright" by my standards...I'm hoping it will tone down a bit after break-in...stock BPV is definitely louder than before...partial throttle from idle to around 3k feel about the same as before...

anything after that all hell breaks loose! I punched it at WOT in 2nd w/o DSC and that thing was out of control! Boy did it put a smile on my face....flooring it in the upper gears (4 and 5) is way more powerful now...I can't wait to reset the ecu and let it relearn itself...I will be reporting back with impressions after the reset!

I am certainly interested in doing this but considering the smoking turbo issues I am certainly very apprehensive!

great wirte up! FYI YOUR STOCK DPOWN PIPE AND MIDPIPE ARE WORTH ABOUT $1700 cuase of the platinum in the cats. Just letting you know alot of people don't know this and discard them.

It took us about 3 hours to install the downpipe, since it was such a tight fit, but the stock downpipe is heavier and it's going to be a lot harder to put back on since your fingers have zero clearance if you ever decide to go back to stock. Took about 4 1/2 hours to go back to stock since we came across a few issues with fitment and getting the bolts lined up with the turbo.

Very nice, so how does she drive?

Man, I just got back from nearly driving 200 miles on the relearned ecu....all I have to say is WOW...this car totally RIPS the tarmac....mods are cobb sri, 3.5 ets tmic, cp-e dp, and cp-e motor mount...did a pull all the way up to 4th gear @ 6000 RPMs.....1st gear is useless as always (gotta granny shift and ease into the throttle)....2nd gear steering wheel is very hard to control because of the strong torque steer....3rd gear is some what hard....4th pulls super hard but stays smooth in a straight line....

so my conclusions? well the downpipe gave me mad power...and the cp-e motor mount STILL holds up very well even with the insane amount of power...like i noted above, heavy torque steer but NO wheel hop...just straight power to the floor baby!

Sweet, glad to hear my next move is the DP, hearing how much of a b**** it is go back to stock I might just get it catted as well.

+1 tell me a place that I can take it to... for even $800 let alone $1700, and I am game. I assume not everywhere would pay that much but correct me if I am wrong. If this is so everyone is upgrading exhaust hahaha

i am definitely curious to know if you start smoking. that cpe piece is one nice looking pipe, congrats.
is just one o2 sensor used?
and then a whatever you called it for the second?

no there are two o2 sensors...one primary and one secondary...the one you see in the picture is the secondary iirc

want to post up some videos of how it sounds from the back of the exhaust in the cabin. thanks ahead of time.

damn bro...unfortunately I don't have access to recording a video...sorry for the inconvenience

what I can say at this point is...the car sounds wonderful...it's been 1 week since the install...the DP definitely toned down just a bit...still louder than stock but I guess I can live with it...it's JUST deeper..not louder in any way
