Could we change our coils to aftermarket ones ?

I was wondering if we would be able to switch our coils to aftermarket ones. i was looking in my msd catalog and see that they have a coil to spark 2 cylinders. I am not happy with the ignition system and would like to change it. I understand that we have transistors in our coils. So if anyone could explain why it could or cant be done it would be appreciated.
