Cost to Paint a CF Hood

Anyone know what prep has to be done prior to painting a CF hood? Can anyone give me heads up as to how much I'll have to pay to repaint a hood in spicy orange colour

why do you want to do that for? c/f looks awesome. i'd guess the only work that would need to be done is to sand the clear coat off and get it into the almost raw c/f form or just enough to get the paint and primer to stick.

because i think black cf on orange looks a lil too "contrasted" for me. but yeh I kno what u mean it kinda makes me shiver the fact that imma buy a cf hood then sand it down :(

bump* ne1 w/ price guesstimates?

i would just call around to some body/import shops in your area and get some estimates. on a side note, have you thought of just spraying a thin coat of spicy on it so it'll have a orange tint but you'll still be able to see the weave

that's what I am going to do when I get mine...a light spray of titanium...maybe even just the flake so that it doesn't just look like a black hood from 30 ft. away. The transparent paint with the cf underneath looks completely awesome IMO:D

LEAVE IT BLACK. why buy a cf hood if youre just gonna paint it? i mean, the effect on performance from the weight savings is negligable

saw it in on a red 240sx that was in import tuner. the owner said they just sprayed a thin coat of paint on it so the cf weave showed through. it was very pimp

lol...yeah...you'll probably gain more performance if you lose the weight over the carbon fiber hood. if you think about it, c/f hoods weigh about 11 pounds or so...not sure on the stock weight but you'll be saving maybe 10 pounds...if you lose at least 20, then you'll have doubled the weight savings.

200CAD a nice full coat? cuz i'm jus doing a half ass light coat =D any guys, does the fact that i need SPICY ORANGE MICA make a diff in price of paint etC?

cf hood for performance?? :-p iunno id prefer eating subway and losing weight imho

you just proved my point, you get cf hood for looks. if you paint over the weave, you just have a hood thats silightly different than stock

its more for the vents :-p not too thrill bout loox of black cf on orange car... makes me think of pumpkins and hallowween.

skuz- any idea on wehre i can get info on this candy paint? isnt it jus a gloss coat?

Candy coating is basically another term for translucent paint. You can see through it, but the more coats, the less you can see through it. It would take a really good painter ti get the colors right as if it was CF, the black would make the color look off. A good job would be a couple grand for the panel as it would take many many coats as well as a very good artist to try to make it not look dull.

wow wow thats wayyyy too much dude 1k is my limit, its already 550$ for the hood.. i have 450$ left for the paintjob...

1/ i can either get it orange to match
2/ lightly coat it to still be able to show off the cf
3/ i think candy coating is out of the question if its gunna cost more than $450

input woud be greatly appreciated.
