Cost of Living in CA

What up people, I am looking at a job out in CA but I don't think it is going to pay me enough to make up for the difference in cost of living between Bloomington, IL and LA, CA So if you all could run some numbers for me.

I currently have a 2 bedroom 2 bath duplex with a 2 car garage. Pretty big place. It has a back deck and a nice size yard front and back My rent is currently 925.00 what would this place run if it was in LA. Keep in mind I am in a good neighborhood where I am now, so I would want to be in a nice area in LA.

Thanks for the help.

man I hate Ca. This price would be to rent a one bedroom or studio in the LA area.

What town are you moving to? That will make a huge difference in rent prices.

I pay 1300 a month for a 900sq/ft house with 2 bedrooms, 1-1/2 baths and no yard or garage.

The beach is close, though. ;)

i'm moving to a 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment. 2 car ports not even close to the apartment but it has a washer and dryer in the unit. $1400/mo. this is valencia by 6 flags about 40 min north of downtown l.a.

on the other hand i'm currently living in a 3 bed 2.5 bath condo with an attached 2 car garage and a tiny front "yard" for $1480/mo in glendale.

I'm glad I live in Texas. I just sold a nice 2400 sq ft house on 3 acres in a restricted area for 165,000. When I was in it the payment was only 1045.00$ for taxes, interest & principal and the insurance. It was appraised for 173,300$ but I had good equity and wanted to build my next house so I gave the buyers a really good deal.

We made around 41k off of it. Now we are rolling that into a new home and should have 114,000.00$ of equity the day we move in.
You can have a badass house in North Texas for 220-350k and a damn nice one for 120-170 something depending on the location.

you can still find some nice deals if you look around , you might have to drive a ways though

TX is so cheap, I'll move back when I graduate. My 3bed 2 bath apt in downtown Baltimore is 1140/month. Parking is $20/year on the street or 90-125/month in the apt's lot... The price of city living I guess.

my friend moved to south lake, near dallas/ft worth a few years ago. he sold his house here and moved into one more than twice the size with a nice inground pool with a built in hot tub and it cost less to live there. stupid texas

Luckezero...

Thanks for that link...That is exactly what I needed....I still don't know what to do. But that link is very helpful....

Culver City can be a good area and there are great areas right around it but expect to be paying arounf $1800-2500 for a similar place to what you have now. If you don't mind a 45min - 1hr30min comute then you can rind stuff in the $1300-2000 range further out. Other stuff to factor in is that you will be close to the beach, skiing during the winter months is no more than 2 hours away, no snow in winter, unless you want to it, and a very racially diverse population. My wife moved here from Chicago and doesn't regret it at all, she likes the fact that over the holiday weekend we were able to take the kids to both Universal and Disneyland with less than an hour drive to either. She can take a 30 minute drive and get to Little Tokyo to stock up on her Japanese food supplies and great sushi doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
Cost of living is definitely more but you also have more to do and you are paying for that fact and then some. For L.A. a dual income is definitely much nicer and you will be able to live n=much easier but it is doable on a signle income if you are careful. Just remember that you will be diving a lot more than you are used to, just look at an aerial shot of L.A. and see the freeway system.(uhm)

Thanks for the info Greg....I am still thinking about what to do. They made another offer even higher than before, so I am still researching things:)
