Cosmo SRI

I have a 2006 2.0L Mazda3. I am not looking to do much in terms of modifications, but I would like a little bit faster throttle response for daily driving. I have been looking at the Cosmo SRI and am wondering if anyone has any opinions about it. http://www.cosmoracing.com/productinfo.asp?cid=143&pid=1278
I prefer this over a CAI due to the price difference and the ease of installation. I don't plan to do any more modifications, so SRI seems to be a decent solution. If anyone has had any problems with the Cosmo or opinions about it, I would like to hear about them. Thanks

If I were you I would get a simota carbon fiber sri. Its looks 100% better than that an it has a carbon fiber heat shield so you will get better performance than a normall sri. http://www.simota.com/pro_in_fiber.php check out this link its gonna look exactly like the focus one not the one shown on the mazda 6.

Where can I purchase one of the Simotas? Also, is installing an sri a reversible process if I ever wanted to go back to stock?

Anything bolt on like headers, exhaust, intakes, etc. are reversible, unless it's take some fabrication to make things fit. The sri is probably loads easier to install and uninstall if need be than a cai.

i have the cosmo racing one simply because i don't want to spend 250 on a piece of metal and a filter. (or carbon fiber in that case). I like the cosmo no complaints, other than watch out how much filter oil you use or you'll get a cel and have to clean the maf.

i think protophile is selling them a lot less then 250... check his forsale threads in the market place for vendors

yeah the website I have at home is down to 199. Still at 85 bucks (shipped) for the cosmo thats hard to pass up.... although the cosmo could be the root cause of my rough idling.

I am out of the Carbon Fiber intake. But I do have the Simota CAIs for sale.
Check the link in my sig.

don't take this as a flame, it's not...but you paid $85 for a peice of metal and a filter...

Just thought it was funny how you worded it, cause the Smiota SRI is more than a peice of metal and a filter ;)

You shouldn't use ANY oil, it's known to cause MAF malfuctions and failures. Either use no oil or a filter that does not require oil.

It's cool I deserve it for being cheap. I hope the sensor isn't bad although its not throwing a CEL. I wish I wasn't so worried about sucking up water but my focus did it (thankfully it didn't lock the motor) and since then I won't buy a CAI. I am hoping I can fix this rough idle I have and that it won't cost me a ton of money to do so. I would go to mazda but we all know they will just keep it for 2 days and fix something that wasn't broke, and then tell me they fixed my problem.

Sorry for being ignorant about this, but could someone explain how a filter uses or requires oil? Thanks.

its the process by which some filters work they use oil over a substrate to trap the dirt particles... when your filter gets dirty you just wash it and re-apply the oil... cept usually people over apply the oil and end up getting it all over their maf and have problems...

I'll explain it the best I can... basically the filter is made up of a cotton (or similar material) element that traps large particles but can only trap small particles (like dirt, dust, and such) with the help of an oil on the pleats of the filter material. The stock filter has more filter material, thus it doesn't need oil, but it reduces airflow considerably. <----That's the best I can do. Hopefully someone will chime in if that's right or not.

EDIT: Yeah I said too much.
