08.5 CWP Speed3 GT (sold)
Hey members,

I have been contemplating on a CorkSport CBE now for my 08.5 Speed3 for sometime, I have seen and heard alot of soundclips of the CorkSport out there and they all sound great! but all have a DP/ testpipe installed which really doesn't give me much help. I have also read that some members have complained about the dreaded DRONE, that I'm trying to eliminate from the stock unit. it seems that all the sound clips I have heard are them being rev'd, but I need FEEDBACK on low RPM 2k to 2500 cruising. Does it drone like stock on the inside with the windows down?????

PLEASE HELP!

Also if you have an HKS CBE I would love feedback on that as well.

I know this isn't scientific by any means but the way I see it, if the slight droning of the stock exhaust bothers you, rest assured practically EVERY aftermarket exhaust, downpipe, test pipe, you name it will only make the droning worst/louder. I recently installed a test pipe that deletes the secondary cat and the exhaust definitely got deeper and louder all across the board - there are even the odd added vibrations from time to time because of the throatier exhaust now. Unless you're adding in more silencers to quiet things down, the drone is still gonna be there.

Well I figure if it really comes down to it I'll have to just fess up and get a GHL, from what I've heard and seen it's nice as heck, as is the price. I spoke with the guys at CorkSport, they told me that the drone is slight but not anywhere near as bad with the windows down as the stock one.

And I would NOT say the drone on the stock system is slight, it's bearable only with the windows up otherwise on downshifts and low RPM it's ridiculous.

Maybe your ears are extra sensitive to certain frequencies because I quite liked the stock exhaust across most of the rev range. Granted, I don't really drive with the windows down, maybe just an inch or two once in a while but I usually keep them closed. But really can't complain because even on a 2 hour highway trip, the stock exhaust isn't intrusive at all. I've had countless passengers in the front and the back all say the stock exhaust was perfectly livable and although they admit it is a bit louder than most other cars, it's got a nice subdued growl & rumble (and that comment actually came from a girl passenger sitting in the back). It's a "good" loud as they say.

It depends on your definition of "livable". Everytime I let go of the gas, the thing just drones. After 45 minutes of that when I'm in traffic, it starts getting old. But on normal highway driving, no issues.

This exhaust reminds me of the Borla that my buddies had on their Audis. Sounds great outside, but just a bit of drone inside, which got a bit annoying after a while. I'm the kind of guy who is a bit bothered by that, I want the exhaust to sound good on the outside, but more quiet inside.

I'm also on the hunt for a new exhaust. Will have to look into the GHL...

Hey Jabba,

Thats EXACTLY what I mean, cruising I have NO issues with any exhaust, but when your in stop and go for like hours it seems, once that exhaust gets HOT and your on and off the gas between 2 and 3k rpm, that inside resonance is just ridiculous that you can't even have a conversation with someone if the windows are down, and yes granted we can put the windows up but I enjoy having natural air on a nice cool day.

Derspi,

I guess we all have our preferences, I'm assuming your still running stock?

Oh and YES I decided that even tho GHL is pricey I decided thats who I'm going to go with, I plan on keeping the car for 5 years and with that stock exhaust that would cut it short to say a year at the most. Guess I'll have to bite the bullet and get a GHL...!

b sure to post sound clips w/ it installed. PS -- y r u opposed 2 getting a DP/TP?

Not opposed to a do at all just want to free up the back pressure and get raid of that damn stock exhaust drone, otherwise if Im not expecting family I would go all out :-(

ehhh there are a bunch of guys who have full TBEs with familys. Idk if you've heard sound clips of the Cobb TBE, but it seems very quiet for a TBE...just something to consider b/c for the price of a CBE, the performance you gain is extremely minimal... ~5hp?

the only problem is the Cobb TBE probably won't be out until beginning of '09 and it ain't gonna be cheap...thats for sure...

just something to consider...

Can i get a link to the Cobb TBE? I didn't know they were even making one

Sorry but personally I will not be buying Cobb products anymore not at all impressed with their product for what u pay it's just not worth it, no offense to Cobb lovers. I have been playin with cars and aftermarket companies for a long time and i've dealt with much better quality and value for my dollar and especially customer loyality and I have to say Cobb is not one of them, take for instance the SRI, Cobb KNEW there was a problem with the air straightners with them but when I called and emailed not only did they NOT try and rectify the issue they just bushes me off and said oh yes there apparently is a bad "batch" and we are workin on it? 8 months later I call and they said they have no record of any bad SRI's? WTF ? U tell me if that would make u want to deal with them again or ant company that does not stand behind their product ?

Corksport on the other hand is a awesome bunch of people!!! Not only did they help me decide on which product is best suited for my needs they had no problems comparing their product vs the competitors and had no qualms to say the other "brand" is better for u. That my fellow members is what makes or breaks brand LOYALITY!

i didnt intend the post to seem like an advert for Cobb -- I was merely suggesting a TBE that wasn't crazy loud and imo sounds pretty decent.

sry u had a bad experience dude.

neway...back on topic. ne1 know of a quiet full TBE?
