Which should I get ? (i know i know both) but i have cash now for only 1...

what would create bigger gains ? Does replacing the downpipe create better sond too?

save up and get a vibrant or perrin. somthing that is 3''. the corksport is 2.4'', definately not ideal for power gains on a turbo car.

2.4" is more than enough for these cars. the corksport is a great exhaust for the money, since its j-pipe back

The Perrin is discontinued and the Vibrant has a cat. Neither are true 3" either as they shrink down to 2.5" to mate up with the stock s-pipe (Vibrant) or j-pipe (Perrin). The Corksport is catless, bolts right up to everything and is substantially cheaper. 2.4" is more than enough for just about everyone on these forums. Unless you're running a larger turbo at 10+ psi it's unlikely you will see a difference between 2.4", 2.5" or 3" with the exception of lost torque.

ya, i was thinking the corksport. i know its j-pipe (turbo back?) not catback. dont know why i put that in the thread title

would the sls midpipe for MSP be sufficient? make better sound / power? Can get this for under 300$ new

Bang for the buck, Corksport is really good. I'm making 200whp/196wtq at stock boost.

You will make more power with it than you would with any midpipe

I have a cat btw, they don't kill power.

Which exhaust will give me better performance

Im trying to debate which exhaust will help me with performance and sound in my mazdaspeed protege is between the GHL Stainless Steel Turboback Exhaust System or the PERRIN Performance 3" Exhaust System which one you guys think is better?

they have options for a cat on th midpipe? or... huh?

I run the corksport setup on 24psi and it doesn't seem to choke me off any. I'll do a dyno pull open dp and see though.

No I just added a Vibrant SS high flow cat so I could be emissions legal and fit the rules for STX. Plus, I gained torque with the cat.

GHL. It's a true turbo back, the Perrin (which is discontinued) is only downpipe back. You'll get bigger gains with the GHL downpipe. Plus, it isn't that much more expensive.

Both will be loud.

Good luck finding either as they are both now discontinued. As suggested above, go for the GHL if you can find it.

GHL and Ion are the 2 ass kicking exhausts for this car, as mentioned, neither is in production anymore.... theres an ion setup (minus the DP) in the FS section right now... Corksport is a fine exhaust unless you're after like... 350+ whp, but drones a bit on the highway from what I've heard. There are, I believe, 2 custom DP's in the works right now (terbow is in charge of one, I forget the other.. timelines are kinda sketchy), and if you got ahold of one of those, you could piece together your own killer system with the help of an exhaust shop for cheaper than most off the shelf units, and have similar, potentially higher gains... assuming you go to a GOOD exhaust shop.

why would i need a GOOD exhaust shop? Just needs to be welded up so theres no leak aye?

also, can i just weld in a straight pipe in place of the downpipe? isnt that pretty much all they are? the catless ones

if you mock it up yourself, then all you need is a good welder. if you're taking it to a shop to have them make the system themselves, I've seen some real crap come out when it was all said and done.. probably didn't flow even as well as stock..

you could just replace the cats on the midpipe with a strait pipe, if you can find a shop (most won't) or buddy to do it for you... and the restriction provided by the cat will then be gone... but for more gains, you want to replace more choke points... like the S and J pipes.

as for the downpipe, no.. the down pipe is made of of at least 3 seperate bends.. but I think that was just a misuse of the word.. (i'm only pointing it out to be clear)

I just bought and installed the Perrin Exhaust today, and it totally rocks! Very nice deep tone, and I can really feel the power gain! I highly recomend it...Sounds like a Subaru!
