Corbeau Seats

All:
How do you handle the seat belt with after-market seats? The seat belt buckle thingee (i.e. what you snap the seat belt buckle into) appears to be built-in to the stock MSP seat. Do after-market seats come standard with a seat buckle clasp or do you use the factory one?
Thanks!
Check again and see if the seat belt is mounted to the seat and not to the floor.

Yup, it's mounted to the seat frame and not to the floor...
The only thing being mounted to the floor is the bolt that it holds the seat to the floor.
Any ideas?
I know that Corbeau makes seat rails/slider for this vehicle, do you think they took this into account?
Thanks

I have used Corbeau Targa RS (TRS) for about 2.5 years now. I had them in my Probe and loved them. I had the 4-pt belts with them too. Then I threw them in my RX-7. They are a great seat.

I spent a LOT of time reasearching seats, pricing, materials, confort before I bought mine actually. (there is a race shop down the street from my work that has probably over 50 seats in stock) I concluded Corbeaus were the best seat for your money.

You are just going to get one in your Protege you said? That'll look really tacky just having one.

By the way... the harness belts are a royal pain to use daily. Boy do those get old. They are just sitting in my closet now. They'll go in my RX-7 eventually.

The main thing with going ONLY with a harness is that you have to have one that's DOT approved to pass inspection... Though I honestly doubt most techs would even think to check that at all. =P

We only have emissions testing in OR. And that is only in the greater Portland area. We don't have inspections here on stuff like that.

Side note: The Corbeau belts are not DOT approved. They have passed the DOT standards but to get the actual approval it would cost a lot and make the price of the belts go up. Safetly wise they are just as good as something with the DOT tag.

Well, my wife really doesn't want me spending ANY more money on a brand-new car (already changed tranny fluid to Royal Purple) so when I tell her it's gonna be at least $400 for one seat (and much more for two), she's liable to hit the ceiling. I've thought about trying to rebuild the seats with Mazda parts (to duplicate her 99 Protege LX's seats--VERY nice compare to ours, supportive, firm, no poking you in the lower back, etc.), but heaven only knows how much that will cost and even if it can be done...

I thought about replacing one seat now and maybe the second later might be a better option.

Any opinions or thoughts as I really don't like the seats at all in the MSP...

Who makes more money?

Yes, I did call Corbeau and got the "scoop"
For the Protege (and other cars where the "seat belt attachment" is mounted to the seat frame), Corbeau mounts a metal bracket to the seat frame that will accept the seat belt attachment. All you have to do is unscrew the current bolt (or grind it off) from the MSP seat frame and screw it into the Corbeau metal bracket. I haven't seen it per se (only in pics from the internet), but talked with a rep. from Corbeau (as well as doing some more research on this forum) and that seems to be the concesus.
Actually, I am in Sacramento, CA today (to visit family) and made it out to a Corbeau dealer and test sat the seats (one of my main priorities for being here). I was happy to see that they had the GTSII, A4, etc. in stock (but not the CR1). I'm glad I got to sit in them, because they all sit very differently. I liked the Legacy the best after test sitting in them for about 1 hours. The A4 was pretty comfortable, but was pretty thin in the bolsters, etc. where it seems like it just was a piece of material stretched over metal with no padding inbetween. Also, the seats in the shop might have been there awhile, but the fabric was coming out of from the plastic on the headrest for the 4 point seatbelts. I liked the GTSII, but it forces you to sit with your legs straight out (due to the stiff bolsters) and I don't think that will work for me in the MSP (have long legs)! They guys at the shop said that Corbeau was probably the best thing if you didn't want to spring for Recaros and my twin had also heard a few good thing. Looking into Sparcos (watched 2 fast 2 furious last nite) and maybe Momos, but they sound expensive.
FS3sBOY, what is your price on the Legend seats/sliders for the MSP?
Thanks!
Mark

As far as I know, there is no adjustment for the tilt.
I am going to call Corbeau again in the near future and ask them about seat height adjustment. As you know, the stock seats are height adjustable, but the Corbeau seats are not and I'm wondering how Corbeau decided on the "proper" seat height for their custom brackets.
I'm sure they would fit just fine for the person of average stature, but I don't know how it would work out if you were particularly short/tall. Maybe, you would have to modify the custom Cobeau brackets.
I believe that Recaro sells height adjustable mounting brackets, but don't know if they would fit the Corbeau seats.
Does anybody else know about this?

The stock seats are height adjustable, yes... But can't be lowered enough, IMO. =) On the lowest settings, I'm still a good four or five inches off the floor, and my head is barely an inch from the roof. ;) Hehee. Whereas in my RX-7, my ass is more or less on the floor. =) Much nicer, in my oppinion!

That, and the total lack of side bolstering and a dip in the lumbar area of the seat make for a rather uncomfortable ride for me. That's the main reason I'm looking for a set of new seats, though. =) Sport seats are the only ones that are comfortable to me, it seems!

I can get the seats for $317.49 each but the mounting brackets and sliders are not out yet, they said they were working on it and no ETA was giving.

Will the regular Corbeau seat brackets work on these seats?
I called Corbeau and they said to double-check the seat mounting bolt spacing, but the regular Protege brackets should work just fine. He hadn't measured the 2003 Proteges yet, but was thinking that the 2002 model bracket would work. My wife has a 1999 Protege and the seat mounting points are identical (it appears, anyway). He emailed me the bracket number to use, but I can't think of it off the top of my head. He also said that I could email him with the mounting hole measurements and he'd double-check for me to make sure they fit. I can get you his contact info if you'd like.
FC3s Boy, do you have other/different information than this? Do the Legacy seats use a different mounting bracket?
Thanks!
