cooling

Why would you want to put ini a low temp? If you're having problems with overheating, then take it back to the dealer. Otherwise, a low-temp thermostat will screw with the calibration of all the sensors. Since there's no turbo, it shouldn't be running hot.

Water Wetter, but I agree.

Mazda spent many months designing the correct temperature for the engine to run at. The hotter it is, the more efficient the motor runs. The best performing engine runs at 5 Deg colder than the oil in the pan can handle before breaking down into GOO!!

That's some pretty high temps if you're using Mobil 1 :-)
Seriously, why are you wanting to change your thermostat? If you're overheating, that's likely a sticking thermostat, or worse.

I just wanted to know if this part was available, not for eveyones opinion on weather or not it should be installed. i thought my question was clear, and how would you know they spent months trying to determine the correct operating temp unless you work as an enginier for Mazda. By the way i'm not overheating.

The Mazda3 and Mazda 6i use an enclosed thermostat housing unit. Its not a seperate thermostat like you normally see in most vehicles. To replace it requires replacing the entire overall unit, and appears to be only available through mazda (at a single set temp) at this time.

Here's a photo of the unit in question.

There is no reason unless you are planning to race your car in the "Dakar" this year with No Oil. Leave it alone. It's one thing that may actually **** up your car's performance. Even with a Racing radiator. You are supposed to keep the stock thermostat.

engine not reaching optimal temp will screw up the way it burns fuel and lower your MPG but since it another thing mazda planned for n/m. Is there a secret society we don't know about? M.A.A.A.(Mazda Against Aftermarket Accesories)?
