What is this gunk in my coolant? It's sorta all throughout the whole system, not just the tank... Engine is 2k miles remanufactured

hope it's not rust?

*had to retake the picture, the first was better. But didn't come out, then i cleaned it... (stoned)

Try doing a good coolant system flush. What did you use for water? Or was it premixed?

If you used tap water it's a possibility that could be either rust or scaling.

Use distilled water if you are mixing the coolant yourself.

I'm not sure, it's whatever the guy i had pull my engine use. I'll try to research scaling... Kinda seems like weird alien crap... I'm flushing and using the 50/50 mixture.

Do not use dex-cool antifreeze "orange junk". It is junk and has potential to eat gaskets out. Dex-cool is normally a gm coolant which typically in bad situations can lead to nasty peanut butter gunk that forms in the system especially around rim of radiator and cap. Could very well be rust if you just had the engine rebuilt and sat without coolant. The block will rust very easily then. You will be fine though, to be safe just flush it out with new coolant and make sure it is mixed. Too much water will still make rust in the system. Mix at least 50/50 anti-freeze.

Yeah I'm going to flush it then get back to ya'll...

BTW: reason why I got it all apart is I thought I had a turbo problem with a bad seal. Guy said that he can't do anything cause it's a garret turbo.

So I gotta test and see if I have blow by or some other issue. Definitely a problem with intake side, exhaust side is fine. And head gasket will be a pain in the @$$ to change. It should be all new stuff, the new remand engine was the one that came with the car and only took about a week for it to go back into the car.

hmmm...

Well flushed it all.

Everything inside the engine seemed nice and clear greenish. So for some reason its only brown in the radiator and catch tank. The coolant passage inside the turbo looked a little gunky. I might try vinegar to eat the crap or think CLR cleaner?

Yeah HG isn't fun, i'm replacing mine right now. I still would do a compression test to make sure. My radiator is all rusty looking from exhaust gases in the coolant. Coolant looked green when I flushed it too.

how is exhaust gasses getting into the coolant you think... new engine, think the turbo has something to do with it?

Well exhaust was getting in my coolant due to a bad HG, that's about the only way it's possible.
