Have you ever wondered EXACTLY what people were talking about when they were using differnt UNITS than you are use to using? like using N-m (newton meters) insted of Ft-lbs (Foot Pounds) for torque? OR Kw (Kilowatts) insted of HP (horse power) for POWER.....or terms like ATMOSPHEREs when talking about air presure? ever wonder where you could find the answers to what is what? well wonder no more.....go to A Dictionary of Units of Measurement and MOST likely you can find your answer.

happy converting!!

:D

most likely because most of those units were ORIGINALLY english...and seeing as how we settled this country from there MOSTLY....things just stuck I guess....

not to mention ... there are actually quite a few countries that are not 100% metric, even in europe. where there are SOME old units still remaining in use.

I am even sure that YOU, there in Canada use some traditional english units for things.....your tires for instance? do you or do you not measure the presure in pounds per square INCH? certainly you do not use the metric measurement of BAR do you? hmm guess you could....but I have never seen a tire made in ANY PART OF THE WORLD marked that way......

please don't take offence...I certainly didn't....for to me Its not really a big deal. At least I don't think so.
