And yes, its a neon, a very mean ill tempered little devil of a neon.

NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO, NO TIBURON.. unless u are planning on dropping a lot of money.. stock wise, msp owns it.. im pretty sure its faster, handle is MUCH more superior, backseats in the tiburon are killer (i know from experience) haha.. and its either its VERY low on torque or something, cuz when i was in one.. (v6 MT), i felt NO pull what so ever.. so MSP! hehe OR srt if u want power =)

the SRT-4. it may be fast...with a lot of potential...but no matter what...its still a damned neon. a neon ladies and gentlemen. blah.
:D
(hand) the srt IS fast, STOCK.. that crap puts down around 230 to the friggin wheels.. while msp puts around 140-150 whp.. dodge claims 215 hp to the flywheel but its been dyno'ed stock and dodge has apparently been revealing the true power of it because it came in at around 215 - 230 fwhp.. and about it being "still a damned neon".. what do you call our cars? isnt it "still a damned protege"? not bashing cuz i got a msp too but.. srt - 4 = a fast ass neon.. FAST.. msp = fast protege..

I was also considering a V6 Tibby before I got my MSP. The reason I ended up with the MSP is because it comes with so many things that I would have spent money on for the Tiburon anyway.....turbo, bodykit, rims, aftermarket muffler...those things can add up quick when you buy them all separate. Plus, having the 8th best new car handling in the world is a pretty fun thing to brag about:D
where did it say we were the 8th best handlin car in the world? havent heard that

ya this has been gone at a thousand times but lets not go there... reg proteges are bad ****** ass and neons are ****** awful, dont make the comparison... evaarrr

"where did it say we were the 8th best handlin car in the world? havent heard that"

Definately not the 8th best handling car in the world. It was tested with some very fine high-end production model cars and performed very well, thoug it was an MP3 not an MSP, but the handling is pretty close if not a bit better on the MSP...Anyway...

Here's a pic of the results from the Road and Track Article....

I had been looking into getting a new car for a long, long time before I actually went out and started physically car shopping. I did a lot of research. And what was most of my research on?

.. I'll admit it. The SRT-4.

My family has owned mostly Dodges, so it only made sense that I'd be attracted to the car that's a step down from the Viper in the Dodge lineup. I mean, that much power in such a little car? It was tantalizing.

However, it took a few test drives before I realized that I was missing one key angle -- EVERYTHING ELSE BESIDES POWER.

You want nothing but power? SRT-4. You want a decent amount of power PLUS everything else? MSP.

The only SRT-4 that was around for me to test drive was on '03 yellow, and it was on display on the showroom floor at the dealership. It took me 20 minutes to get the guys to take it off the floor so I could drive it. And half of them wouldn't lay off me about being careful driving manual. **** you, just because I'm a girl doesn't mean I can't drive stick. THAT really pissed me off.

Incredible power. Amazing sound. The car just SCREAMS to go. But other than that? I couldn't shift without bashing my elbow into those goddamn 'molded' seats, the shifter knob felt like hell in my hands, the pedals felt frail, the stereo was a disaster in itself, the interior was designed horrendously, the body contours were poor, and one other thing -- the body roll. I don't know if I'm one of the few that picked up on it; but it was there. Not MUCH, I'll admit. But I felt it. Other than the throbbing engine, the car just felt awful. I think the best way to describe the SRT-4 is a rocket enclosed in a flimsy cardboard box. Get into an accident in the SRT-4 .. and you're dead.

And then I drove the MSP. It was like the seat was made for me. I'm short -- 5'1", 102 pound female over here -- but I could see over the dashboard! I could reach the shifter knob without straining! I could push in the clutch the whole way without having to throw out my leg! It could HANDLE, it LOOKED GOOD, and I could SEE. It didn't pulse with horsepower like the SRT-4 did .. but it sure as hell wasn't weak.

So the next morning, after the test drives, I sat in my living room -- staring at the specs for the SRT-4 and the MSP, trying to figure out what to do. I'd had my mind set on an SRT-4 for months. Almost a year, since I'd first heard of it.

.. But after the test drives, it wasn't really all that hard. And I love my MSP. :D
Talk about one hell of a old ass thread (smoke) Still a good read none the less, you go girl!

did you read any of this thread at all?

just curious, because i think the guy owns a mazdaspeed, and has since november.

The last review I read on the SRT-4 says it's very fast, but the interior is "low-rent", fit and finish is "sub-par" . "With the exception of what's under the hood, the SRT-4 is still an entry market Dodge Neon".

This thread will self-destruct...now.(burn)

I didn't look at the SRT-4 cuz it was a Neon...
I looked at 20th GTI and R32... I never liked the way VW's inside were layed out
I thought about the SVT focus. But the car was not up to par with other SVT's
I also thought about SI and TRD celica(not the action package fully blow turboed car)... The SI was a hatch back and look bad compared to the 99-00 model... The TRD celica was 30k just to have the preformance a 21k MSP.
Finally the RSX.... What the **** was honda thinking making that car as a "acura - luxury car"... It looks like it was made of legos.

Yeah didn't mean to dig it up...it was 1 of 5 or 6 threads at the bottom of the page so I clicked and now I'm here....one thing that was dumb is DCX replaced the acr with the SRT and didn't bring the adjustabe struts over with it...and the non powered rear windows again! One day when the insurance rates go down alot or I turn 25 I'll get one if they havn't wrecked every last one cause the life span of an SRT-4 is like less than a year. Quickest kill I saw was 3 days off the lot....in the snow with Z rated tires street racing

My dumb ass friend bought one

Yeah my buddy has an 04'. The outside is ugly and yes the inside looks like a rental car except...the front seats are much nicer than hours and it has a nicely placed boost gauge. And yes they are MUCH faster stock but they handle like s*** and once again they are butt ****** ugly! The money he'll have to spend to make that thing look good inside and out(about 4 grand) we can spend on bolt ons, internals, hell a stand alone, and then whoop his pretty neon..... (stooges) I love my MSP! (nuts)

IMO, 4k into appearance on the neon would still be no where close to a msp, geez i dont even know if 20k could do it honestly.... u figure the best wheels, molded body kit, and paint on the amrket i would STILL hate the way it looks, mazda owns

imo '04 blue srt4 are not that bad looking. Lowering them also helps out a lot. But lower a msp, thats just damn sexy:)

mazdaspeed man! If you want to be noticed and own a rare car this is for you. Power isn't much of a problem, put abit of money in it and it's sweet. Also, it's a perfect balanced car if you're into twisties. Srt may be fast but i think it's still a neon, i don't have much respect for it (my opinion), and the tib is pretty good now but of course i'm goin to be bias and side with msp.

I think the Mazdaspeed looks the best of all the models. (of course I'm a bit biased) I sacrificed the raw power of the Neon for the looks and handling of the MSP.

I think other than the rich ass high-end the MSP is a blast to drive. Looking forward to my trip to the track next month.

Supman, have I ever told you how much I love your car? Probably not, well yeah it looks tight in a JDM kinda way, where can I find more pics?
