Confounding Oil Change

:
2012 Mazda 5 Grand Touring
I have done a good bit of work on my own cars, although most of them are older vehichles from the 90's. I boight a new Mazda car (or van - not sure what to call it). I think it is a cool vehicle.

I am fixin' to change the oil, but I am nervous that what I think is the oil bolt is the transmission drain bolt. The oil pan is to the left, under this cumbersome black protector. The bolt in question is perfectly aligned in the cut out to where surely it would be designed for oil drain, but I am nervous. Are my fears unfounded?

Also, do I have to take this black protector off to get the filter off? I have wrench like oil filter tools, and I am not sure there is enough clearance to get the torque necessary to get the thing off. This is worrysome, especially because I think the factory sends them out extra tight. Any recommendations?
