common prob?

i am close to buying an 09 speed 3. only thing holding me back is the horror stories about the motor mount failures. even after the recall fix. would anyone chime in and help alleviate or confirm my fear?

All you need to do is buy the TRZ engine/trans mount combo and it is no longer an issue. There has not been a car with these mounts that dropped an engine. In fact there have been a few cars that had the stock trans mount break, but because they had the lower mount upgraded the motor never fully dropped. IMO i would not put my family in a car with stock mounts.

damn. that is a dealbreaker. you would figure that mazda would do something about this. no other car ut there has this kind of serious issue. thats some dangerous s***. do you know if they addressed it in the 2010 speed 3?

yeah ill help alleviate. DON"T LAUNCH YOUR CAR AT EVERY STOP-LIGHT AND STOP-SIGN. There fixed. I have put over 25,000 miles on mine since having the recall done and have yet to have a problem. Hell, I have even done a few trackdays on it too. But, if you want to let a small percentage of failed mounts talk you out of the car, then that is up to you.

I've an '09 with some mods, but stock mounts. Car has around 7500 miles. I've done a few moderately hard launches but never dumped or side stepped the clutch. Only problem I have ever had was the "firewall-bang" sound during a...uh, contest...with a Legacy GT shortly after my purchase.

Good Day
My 08 has 37K on it and at 12K the plastic bracket broke that attaches the cool air duct to intercooler, dealer said they had never seen that before, at 20K it happened again and I asked them to ck MM seeing as I had read alot on this forum about MM problems, I just opened the hood this past weekend to start cleaning up after a long winter and I saw the bracket hanging down again at 36.5K, I took it in to dealership and they where dumb founded, the head Speed tech took the battery out and low and behold there was a crack down the motor mount. The dealer is putting another(3rd) cold air assemble on and waiting for the MM to show up to do it all at the same time. So I drove more than 27K with a broken motor mount and nothing eles happend so I consider myself very lucky that I had no further problems. I can't say I look forward to post warranty when I will have to foot the bill, guess it will be time to replace all the MM, that cold air intake list for $430+.
Just a thought!

Everyone has his or her own individual experience, so I'm not saying mine is typical. But I now have 10,000 pretty hard miles on my '08.

Lots of clutch dumps, lots of work on developing smooth launches. Launches hard from a dead stop in both first gear and second gear with clutch dumps to try to find the sweet spot for best 60 ft. times.

I'm modded with maybe a bit more than some, including not only a CAI intake, but pure 3 inch catless dp/rp. No tune yet. Still evaluating the market.

The stock mount is holding fine. It is soft, but feels no softer than the day I drove it off the dealer's lot. I may upgrade to an aftermarket mount just because of the occasional missed 2-3 shift.

I would not let the soft mount keep me away from a car this fun.

I'm upgrading my mounts simply because I don't like the feeling of the engine bucking around in the bay between shifts.

08-09's are no different. Sure they have the bolt mazda "claims" fixes the problem. It doesnt. I have seen on this and other boards plenty of failures on other than 07's. Mounts are a no brainer must have mods IMO. Not all stealerships warranty when your engine hit the ground. They say it was due to excessive abuse, and you are left wih a huge bill. Or for under $200 you can buy new mounts that will garauntee this doesnt happen

my bolt broke even after the recall.
i have 3 after market mounts on my car. **** the stock pieces of s***

seriously my delrin is the best s*** ever and was only like what 130. if a motor mount problem is all thats holding you back just spend a ******* 100 bucks on one of the many options or get the recall. motor mounds are a good idea for any modified car anyway.
