Comments on these tires

Which of these would you guys picked or which one I should definitely stay away from?

Kumho Kh16
Nexen N3000
Nankang NS-I
Hankook Ventus HRII H405
Hankook Radial K106
Toyo Proxes Fz4
Hankook Ventus HRII H40
Falken Ze-912
Kumho Ecsta Ast

I am looking for a quiet comfortable ride that handles well for all season.

the last two are the only ones I would consider. The ast' get great feedback, and I'm running the 912's right now. They are damn good for an all season.

The last two are the only one's you would consider? Why? lol I will say flat out, that Proxes4's & Nexen 3000's are both superior to Ecsta AST's. s***, I like them A LOT more than the Ecsta ASX too, which is a stiffer, stickier tire than the AST. The falken is a good tire, but s***, Ecsta's aren't worth the money IMHO. Proxes4 are stickier dry & wet than than ANY of the All-Season Ecsta tires. Anyways, I've never used the hankook tires b4, someone else will have to give some input on those.

I'm starting to worship you as a protege god, so just tell us what tires your using and we'll all buy those :)

No, I just have too much free time at work... I don't have 10% of the knowledge a lot of the guys on here have.

But, I have Toyo Proxes4 on my Protege. Tried out Kuhmo Ecsta ASX's as my last tire and was completely unsatisfied with them. They were fine (nothing special) on dry pavement, but they were s*** in the rain. They would squeal a little even when not taking corners fast AT ALL. Just didn't like them... The Toyo's on the other hand, unless its like hurricane conditions I really don't notice a huge drop off in traction and grip. Braking grip especially is really good witht he Proxes4's wet and dry. Only pluses the Kuhmos have in their favor is the ASX's are like $5 cheaper per tire (the AST's are like $10 cheaper per tire) and they have a slightly higher treadwear rating which proably equates to less than 5k miles total on the life of the tires. (thats a complete guess haha) But performance wise, the Proxes4's blow them out of the water.

So that's my .02

Thats the verdict.
Court dismissed. (five-0)

I run the ventus HRII 405s and I have been happy with them. There's a tire review thread around here that will give you more info. They've only lasted me about 20k miles, and I don't expect to get much more than 6k more out of them, but I use them as all seasons and they work well. Plus, they're one of the few tires that comes in a 215 that will fit on the protege stock 16s (215/40/16) and they're cheap (~$70 a tire). The extra 10mm is AWESOME. They're very sticky and I like them a lot.

I've had the Kuhmo's and they were a damn good tire. They finally gave out due to me getting screwed on an alignment and then I got the Falkens, I can say that they are as good as the Kuhmo's. I can't comment on any of the other tires.

I don't like the soft sidewall of the Toyo's, and driving friends cars with a/s hankooks...ugh. The only Hankook I'd buy is the RS2, and that's a summer tire.

I bought Bridgestone Potenza 019 Grids and love them. They are not as good as the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3s that were taken off, but they are defiantly worth the cost. Entry speeds in on/off ramp corners is barely noticeable (225% vs. the recommended caution speed is what I have tested) and they are quiet on the road. That means if the caution sign says 50 km/hr, I'd do it at 112.5km/hr. The F1 GS-D3s were awesome but very expensive at almost $300 CDN/tire including tax. I got the grids for less than $700 installed.

I punished the Goodyear's to no avail, I never had the tires beg for forgiveness even with less than 10% tread left (keep in mind that the Bridgestone's are new so they may/will dissolve performance over time). The new 'stones are 195/55/16 vs. the F1's 205/50/16.

I haven't tried the other tires you mentioned, but the 'stones are definitely worth the $$ IMO.

Toyo Proxes4. Better in the rain, quieter than kumho's and falkens. Stickier than the kumho's, similar to the falkens. They are a good tire with very little road noise. The stiffer a side wall on the tire, the more road noise you will get. Techinically the stiffer sidewall will give your tires better lateral response, but the difference in stiffness on the kumho's is not a noticaeble difference any any performance area, only increase is in road noise.

Which is good in the snow?

None of them are good in the snow. All seasons are not made to perform in snow, only snow tires do that. It's mainly driver knowledge that aids driving in snow. Wider the better though I guess...

Which is good in the snow?

I can tell you the nankang's are terrible in the snow. I still have yet to figure out how a tire can lose traction completely while drving straight and not accelerating or breaking whatsoever. There was no ice on the road, just snow. This was in my old neon but I can honestly tell you that those tires are pure s***.

How about flat spots if you let it sit for a week or something?

If I go away for a week, and come back I get a little bit of a vibration at ~90km/hr, then it goes away, after a few miles of driving.

I'm still running the damn stock dunlop's... been meaning to make an appointment for a set of Proxes 4...

i have falcons ze912 and i can say they are great tires. great in snow and rain! road noise is ok(not gunna say its quiet) smooth ride.

8.5-9/10
