I made my first long distance trip in my week-old Vivid Yellow P5 last weekend (600 miles) and must say that I don't know how I lived without cruise control for that long in my last two cars. Anyways....

For those of you who live in Illinois, you know what an I-Pass is. For those that don't, I-Pass is a little gadget that you stick in your window that allows you to go through a tollbooth without stopping - the transmitter records your info and the DOT bills you at the end of the month. Anyways...

I left my I-Pass in the car that I sold to my girlfriend (silly me) and had to give out cash the old-fashioned way. As I pulled into the booth, the guy sitting inside just grinned. He called the other guy over from the next booth over and they both remarked at how nice my car was. The guys said "thats the nicest looking car we've seen in a long time, and believe me we see alot of cars around here." FYI for ILMP5; the booth was the Dekalb Oasis if you know where that is...

Talk about putting a smile on your face. Anyone else have similar experiences?

yep have the same comments from alot of people when I cruisin on my red 5. no tollway workers yet though, two cops yes, drive thru employees, of course chicks dig the ride as well.

yep same here....had it happen a few times...and ME being the OLD GUY....(45) I have even had some REALLY good lookin women/girls waving at me! lol THAT puts a smile on your face!!! lol

yeah...from all the guys i see...they're like that's a cool car...what are you gonna do to it...etc..etc...

unfortunately from the girls...all i get is "it's so cute"...but at least the chicks come now...lol

Ppl just stop and stare at the candy red 5. Its almost to the point where im starting to get sick of the attention....NOT!!! :p :D

i once had a guy in an old supra staring at my car. first, he was staring at the front right wheel, then, he stared at me, with a mocking smile, i stared him back, he drove away. Then, i checked my p5 after i parked the car, the front right wheel was covered with mud!! i guess that was the time i got most attention. The place i live has way too many p5s, no one is paying attention to them anymore.

When i first got the car, I was coming out of work one night and there were these two dudes looking at my car. Like all up on the glass cupping there hands looking in and s***. So as I was walkin closer to the car I pressed the lock button twice on the keyless entry to make the horn honk and they about s*** their pants. Then I just walked up to them and they just started telling me how much they liked the car. I ended up talking to them for like an hour about my car and theirs.

But a lot of people call the car a station wagon. But if they wanna say that let em, i just tell tell them to get off my dick.

Yeah I used to get a lot of looks from people when I first got my car - I was literaly the second person to have it in my town, unfortunately tho I got a nice silver car so only the old people and adults like my car, seeing as it looks refined and sporty and seems to look useful. The kids tend to ignore my car... until I got mirror tint, now people talk about my car like noone drives it... it just drives itself to school everyday - and with the mirror tint, let em believe that, they can't see me.

There are only a few Protege5s in my area, my yellow included of course. I drive around alot and have people always pointing at me. My girlfriend has gotten so annoyed, she starts pointing back at people. I love the attention, but people need to learn to support their lower jaw and carry tissues to wipe the drool. :)

I get gawked at when I go to races. This past weekend the tech guy said " You really need to wash this thing before you bring it out here." I was thinking what a dick, but I held back. I told him I was in a rally the day before and I didn't have the chance to clean it. He started laughing and said "I'm messing with you, You have the cleanest car that ever races here! You think it's dirty even when it's clean!" I felt embarassed. I thought he was giving me $hit. I had done a rally the day before, but I got up at 6AM to wash it before that. Yes, I'm anal and I like having the cleanest car around.
I get picked on because I constantly am cleaning it, and the blue sticks out like a sore thumb. Probably wash it twice a week and wax it about every 3 weeks. I love this car! And everywhere I drive people stare. Yesterday on the way home this car load of kids had their windows down and were pulling up next to me at a light. The driver was staring so hard he slammed onthe brakes late to avoid the car in front of him. They all started laughing, as did I. It's cool to know Mazda can make a car that can cause a wreck just from jealousy. :)
Hmm, Mine's an MP3 though. Still wanted to tell my story!

The autoX has been so great for me too in terms of getting compliments. It's actually been an overload at times. I get there and the tech inspectors compliment it...then other drivers come and ask to take pictures and ask all sorts of questions.....the most often asked question which other MP3 owners can relate to I'm sure...."Is that fill in the blank with wheels/stereo/etc stock??"
It was funny because after the first autocross, there were just a ton of pictures of my car floating around on the net because everyone took shots of it. :)

When I'm cruising with my girlfriend, she always sees all these people looking over and giving thumbs up signs etc......it's really a good feeling I gotta say. The only time I don't like the attention is when some punk kid comes up and starts revving on me as normally I don't do the racing thing(keep it for the tracks) and it can get annoying.

I was at the mall walking back to my car behind a very "flamboyant" gay couple. Around here (L.A.), gay people are considered to have really good taste because they're so discerning. Anyway, I was walking behind the couple towards my car, but they didn't see me. As they passed my car one of them stopped in his tracks, backed up, and said "Oh my, what kind of car is THIS?!" He was asking the question rhetorically, but was obviously startled when I answered "It's Protege 5." He put his hand over his mouth and just smiled in embarassment. His boyfriend just giggled with him. I took it as a big compliment.

Oh, and I get the "chicks" too... Too bad I am one myself. Hehe...

i live out in the country some what! and when i got mine all the ppl at and around were crazy bout my car. now on the road to my house there are 3 of them 2 gray (one mine) and 1 white. I guess i am a leader for once and not the follower. Hell Yea.
