Cold start burning smell

Was wondering if anyone else has this problem or if I should go get my car checked.

On really cold mornings (around 20* or so) ill let my car warm up to just above the C Where it starts to get into them temp bar. Ill begin to drive slowly to not push the motor and shifting at about 2. Once I hit 5th gear car feels like it looses all compression, does not accelerate and then omitts a horrible burning smell. Something comparable to the smell of burning clutch or something electrical. Any idea on what this could be? Again, this only happens when its really cold

Check your brakes,... look for heat from the rotors and a smell.

You might need to grease your slider pins.

I have noticed that when it is cold like this that the ebrake goes up with no resistance but it still holds the car.

I drive rental cars a lot. Sometimes I'm not familiar with the car, and find myself driving for miles with the emergency brake on. Which, I know, doesn't say a lot for me. But it really doesn't say a lot for the emergency brake. Which isn't so much an emergency brake, as an emergency make-the-car-smell-funny lever.

First thing I thought of. Which made me laugh a whole lot. Thanks for that, guys.

Don't forget to check and see if your brake cables are seized. The connection should pivot freely where the brake cable connects to the caliper.
