cobb accessport

Drive a stock WRX then drive a COBB stage 2 WRX (TBE and Accessport). You will be sold on it.

Granted the WRX and the MS3 are not the same car, but the R&D put into Cobb's parts are top notch.

Most of their tuning solutions have substantially improved the power band of cars. Since they have control over the everything the ECU controls on the MS3, including the throttle plate, hopefully a substantial improvement will be extending the powerband to make use of that 6700rpm redline.

Cobb has been running their maps on their MS3 since mid spring. I would dare say that the amount of data collection, analyzing, and tuning on this motor by Cobb is only outdone by Mazda itself.

Not knocking the good work of other tuners out there, but if you are undertaking the cracking of an ECU, one has to appreciate the hard work that goes into such a process.

I'm getting tired of waiting but at least this gives me time to save up some cash. I think an MS CAI and the Cobb AP will hold me over just fine for a while. Then maybe the ETS TMIC and just maybe, a downpipe or something to get a few more ponies out of the exhaust. I'm just hoping the Cobb AP doesn't leave any traces of itself so I don't void my warranty. Everything else is easily swapped back to stock.

Looks like the Cobb should be releasing parts soon. Sway bars are being powder coated, and they are just waiting on some silicone peices to come in for their intake (~3 weeks). They are releasing the short-ram part first, and then later the cold air box that works with it.

Also, springs should be availible by late August/early September.

I just want the AP for now. engine management is the key to unlocking the cars potential.

I dont think it will come down to the fact if they can check the ecu for a flash date and mileage, I think it will come down to it looking like it was tampered with. There was a speed6 with a blown engine at my dealer when my car was getting peiced together, to me it was obvious he was boosting and leaned out, He didnt have anything on the car, but to them they were looking for any scuff marks or scratches on anything that could have been switched out and trying to build up a story from that. It was such s*** but they told me they voided his warranty, so a word to the wise anything thats going to be switched out, MAKE SURE it dosent look like youve been playing with it, especially the ecu harness, dont scratch it up or break any clips because that will be their first indication...

On the other hand Im all for it!!! :D

After rereading this, i wanted to state that I don't work for cobb or anything, I just know how well they do with the wrx's and am excited to see what they can do for this car. We do have to appreciate the work that goes into these things and the limited number of cars Mazda made.

I've been reading up on Cobb for a long time in the subby forums. They are very well liked and are known for offering very good but safe gains from there "Stage" packages. I know people that use there stuff too, so its not just stuff I've read. I know as soon as its available I'll be looking seriously into the Access Port. One of the cool things they usually offer is a Stage 1 package, which is just an ECU tune, no other mods. With this package and what the speed3 seems to be making on the dyno and the fact that they may be able to eliminate the loss of power not only in 1st and 2nd gears but also help move the powerband up to the redline (or at least closer) makes it very interesting. I'm not looking for a 12 sec car or anything but look at what they get on a 2.5 WRX with no other mods(From there Website):

"This is where to start your quest for additional power and response from the WRX. Included is the highly regarded AccessPORT which is used to reprogram the factory engine computer, unlocking an additional 33 HP (power) and 43 lb-ft (torque) from a WRX and increases boost to approximately 14.7psi.

Requires no tools or mechanical knowledge to install. The AccessPORT does all the work of programming the factory ECU for you, just simply plug it into the factory service diagnosis port located below the steering wheel. Follow the on-screen instructions and within 10 minutes you'll be out driving, enjoying your new found performance."

The Subbys always seem to keep the Stock Airbox until above 300 whp i think, but it seems that the MS CAI has already proven to make power, and I know Cobb is working on an Intake also, so im sure the CAI you guys already have will work fine with stage 1. I'm actually completely holding off on mods until cobb comes out with the access port. Want to see what they have to say about CAI's and such. This car is fast, but wow imagine no loss in the first gears(I have no idea if this is physically or electronically possible for Cobb with just the ECU) and about 30 WHP and 40 lb ft trq more....can anyone say "Tires" and "I wish our Rims were 18x8..LOL"

Oh yeah, what this post was about..lol With Stage 1, theres no visual clue to the "Chip" for Mazda to complain about. You can even revert back to stock.

Yes but as mentioned going back to stock means that they can see how long it has been since a reflash and its obvious if they didnt do it then who did when the run times dont match up from the time they did it last.

#1 I doubt anyone is checking run times when flashing a car.

#2 I think that tampering with the ecu harness is going to raise more eye brows than a reflash will.

#3 This is assuming you blow something up. I think with Cobb, your chances are much less, rather than piggybacking.

+1 for Cobb. My STi was a different car even at Stage 1 (accessport only), once I went stage2...look out! (shocked)

Totally wakes the car up! You won't be dissapointed. It's the best bang for buck upgrade you can do for the MS3...well, once it's available that is.

cant wait for cobb to come out, my friends got a 04 WRX stage 2 , and it is just amazing compared to stock.

the subbies that have this all swear by it i cant wait to get mine and see what all the fuss is about. so much less intrucive then cuting and splicing electricle wires. great safe performance and have multiple maps you can switch from on the fly. whats not to like.

Cobb does have different stages for different mods on your car but they are safe tunes and i personally have no problem with that and kinda like not pushing the car to that extent. Other people would rather have their own sperate tune that gets done on a dyno. They would squeez some more HP from that. It really comes down to what your really want and like. Me I personally can't wait to see what cobb come up with for the MS3

Speed3 owner now. '05 Subaru Legacy GT owner before that. Purchased the Cobb AccessPort within 2 months of buying my LGT. Beyond a doubt, zero hesitation....the absolute best mod purchase that I made. And that's coming from a guy that spent nearly $20 Large on so many mods its rediculous (built motor, two different bigger turbos, ACT clutch/fly, BBKs, two different FMIC setups, etc etc.).

The AccessPort is so extremely easy to use. Plug it into the OBDII port, turn the ignition key to ON, and upload a new map to the ECU. Done! Take about 10 minutes if you move slowly. :)

The flexibility of the AP is simply amazing. It starts with the "canned maps" that Cobb will make available. Typically its a Stage 1 map (for completely stock setup) and Stage 2 map (usually requires a Downpipe). Further, Cobb provides different Stg 1 & Stg 2 base maps for the various grades of octane fuel available around the country. Namely 91 oct for suckers like me who live in CA. And 93 oct for lucky folks living in states with zippier gasoline. The difference between the two grades of fuel can be around 10-15 hp.

Once you own the AP, the skies the limit from there on. There are many qualified, certified Cobb "ProTuners" that use a special version of software similar to StreetTuner sold by Cobb. You pay around $350-$400 bucks for a ProTune. This allows for a customized, optimized ECU tune specific to your vehicle's mods. Maybe you have a CAI. More open exhaust. FMIC whatever. Getting a ProTune is always the best bet unless you stick with no mods (Stage 1) or few mods (Stage 2).

As I mentioned, Cobb also makes "StreetTuner" software available for those brave folks wanting to do their own road tunes. Personally, I know that I'm not qualified to try it.

The best part is all my advocacy of the AccessPort comes from my experience with the older Version 1 AP. The new AP v.2 is so much more sophisticated. It provides a wealth of more information, allows for real-time changes between ECU maps, acts like a digital gauge display for everything the ECU monitors.

I don't care if its calendar 2008 before the AccessPort comes out. I am patiently waiting for what I already know is perfect.

NOW HURRY UP COBB GUYS!!!!!!!! (burnout)
