Ok, since I plan on going boosted, I want a good clutch/flywheel combo. What's the best ones I can get? People with aftermarket clutches/flywheels, can you let me know how yours are?

I've used a Clutchmasters Stage 1 and a Fidanza Flywheel from rr-racing in my old Probe GT and was really pleased with the results. I would recommend them to anyone.

I also recommend rr-racings package, very reasonably priced for the set. However, the slightly heavier mazdasped flywheel may make for a smoother idle. The folks here that have the rr-racing set claim that his half-weight flywheel (9lbs) is still good for smooth idle. And I would recommend the stage I as fastdrvr recommended, although his stage 3 woudnt hurt anything. But be aware, III engages almost instantly, there is no clutch slippage. I is much more streetable.
god, all these folks going boosted.....

mind hitting me with a URL for that package?

The "Clutchmasters STAGE I w/ Fidanza 2.0L 4 cylinder flywheel (Probe, Mx6, Protege 2.0)" seems like a good deal for $500. How are Fidanze Flywheels? How are clutchmasters clutches?

500 is a fantastic deal. The mazda speed set will run you about 2x as much.
I know clutchmasters is good stuff, no worries at all there. Last as long as stock (the kevlar/organix last longer), and less slip. I do not know about the fidanza, I have no on-car experience with those.

Talk to Rishie (the "r" in rr-racing). He's a member of the site and can tell you more.

The CM Stage 1 I had grabbed really well for the street. It is an Organic Disk Vs. the Kevlar disc on the stage 3 unit. The stage 3 takes a while to break in, but should last one hell of a long time. Although, I have heard of the stage one lasting pretty long as well. Hell, Rafi at rr.racing used to run a stage 1 on his supercharged Probe GT... If it could take the power of that beast a boosted 2.0 should be no problem.

I talked with another guy about this a while back, if you want a more detailed explanation do a search on "Flywheel"... . Anyways, the fidanza allowed the engine to rev faster. It doesn't build horsepower by any means, but allows the engine to rev quicker, therefore increasing acceleration somewhat. It took a little getting used to, but it was well worth it.

I just purchased the Stage I without the flywheel, should be here friday and hope to have my car back a week after that. My old clutch disk was toast, must have been the N2O :(

Anyway, If you are planning on waiting that long I could add another opinion to the list.

ARG! I don't know what to do!
Fidanza flywheel + Clutchmasters clutch=$500 + shipping

OR

Fidanza flywheel + ACT clutch=$685 shipped

If you were smart you'd copy a space (CTRL+C) and then paste it (CTRL+V) whenever you needed a space. ;-)

I dunno, I think this is entertaining. I, too have got drunk and spilled on keyboard. I woke up in the morning and Microsoft word had crashed because the "t" key had gotten stuck (ttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt, but for 900 pages).
Ah, alkies.

TASTES GREAT...

what does everybody think about the 15lbs Mazda flywheel. the only reason i am cosidering it cause it wouldnt void my warranty. its light enought to get some positive effects from it, with out sacraficing daily drive ability (i have 20 miles of traffic every morning). and its not that expensive. would three pounds of unsprung weight be enought to make an effect?

Goddamit, you again!:) :) :) :) :)
"LESS FILLING"
Yes, three pounds would have an effect. Keep in mind, just putting the 9lb on wouldnt void the warranty, they'd have to prove it caused it. There is exactly one person on this site with the mazdaspeed, unfortunately my mind doesnt work.
And as far as

i'd.say.go.with.the.act..."you.get.what.you.pay.for"
, clutchmasters is quality s***, I think both clutches here would be a good deal. Rishie and others use the stage 1, and it holds up well. Just go with personal preference, and if you have a material preference (what it's made of)

Damn you street racers, can never take care of your personal computers...which reminds me, I have to go clean my mouse and defrag my hard drive now, I'll be back...

No, in all seriousness, I'd go with the ACT. Clutchmasters is very good but ACT will never fail you, I'd spend the extra $150 or so and you'd most likely get a longer-lasting clutch anyhoo. But then again my opinion doesn't matter so..:bs:

Decisions, decisions...
