Clunking Sound from Rear of Car

I hear things.
Something is moving back there.
What is it???

Anybody else hear something clunking around when going at slow speeds? I hear it when I'm in parking lots, going over speed bumps, braking at slow speeds. I can't figure out what it is. Probably nothing serious, but I'd still like to figure it out.

It's kind of a hollow, clunking sound.

I dont own a 2 yet but when i had an old 85 escort the spare tire in the back under the floor made a weird noise like your describing because it was loose and shifted under braking or speed bumps, just a suggestion.

I haven't had a chance to test things out much yet, but before I left work I fiddled with the back seats & I noticed when I put them down the metal part of the seat belt lays right up against the plastic on the car & makes a hollow, knocking sound if I tap it. Maybe the last time I put the seats back up that buckle was trapped up against the plastic. Hopefully that's what it was, but I'll have to go drive around the speed bumps a bit when I get time.

I also have a squeak which I think comes from the rear taillight housing. I can press on it & the area around it & make it squeak. Probably just need to tighten something or put a little grease in the right spot.

I have a sort of rear suspension creak that someone briefly mentioned in a comment was a problem on Facebook. I bet that's what you're experiencing. My symptoms are exactly as you describe. It's worse in the cold.

I think my "clunking" may have been the seatbelt as I stated above............I didn't really notice it anymore today. I still hear some noises from back there, but not the clunk. The squeak I hear sometimes is from the taillight housing I believe. When the frame of the car flexes it causes a squeak in that area which I can reproduce just by opening the trunk & pressing on the taillight housing or the panel around the taillight housing. No big deal though.

Edit: I changed my mind; I think I still hear clunking. :) I hear a few noises back there when I'm going slow in parking lots. There's not necessarily anything wrong, but I like to know where all the sounds come from when I own a car.

I noticed today the heat shield above the muffler is easy to rattle just by moving it with a finger, so I think that's probably some of the noise I hear.

I hear a clunking too on slow bumps sometimes. I've yet to investigate it , but I suspect the tire jack/iron.

I don't hear clunking anymore. I think all of the noises I was hearing & still hear are just from the plastic body panels that surround the taillights. It squeaks & creaks like crazy when going slow in a parking lot over any kind of bumps. It doesn't bother me now that I know what it is.
