Clunk Updates

Well with about 300km to go until my warranty is done, the rear end of my car has started with a horrible squeeking sound. I am assuming that it is the swaybar (which has not been replaced) , but I am not positive.

I tried spraying white lithium on it but it didn't help. I will try the WD40 next I guess.

Mine (knocking hard as hell on wood) still are quite and I have a super duper bumpy road coarse I take everyday. and the rubber pieces are still working great :)

Spraying doesn't seem to help a lot. The bushings are so tight against the bar that not much go in by spraying around.

Today I went to my dealer again and this time they acknowledged the squeeking sound. And the tech finally admitted it was the bushings (what I had told him from day one). So they lube them.

It seems they had not lube them when installing the 156E. Quote from the TSB :

"Important Note: Lube bushings prior to assembly with a silicone paste to
prevent premature wear and/or squeaks." (scratch)

Anyways, now it's ok, but for how long...

I had my swaybar, endlinks, and bushings replaced a few weeks ago. I dunno, is it me or do the 156Es do something different? Its not a clunk, really, but kind of a higher pitched, quieter noise that comes out. Seems like the material they used grips the bar less and allows it to twist more, but doing so quietly and allowing the bushings to last longer. It just isn't SILENT.

November 2003 to Today, July 30th, 2004.

Might as well say August. Knock on wood, but I'm good so far. Squeaking is getting harder to get rid of with the wd-40 trick though. Might have to break down and get the dealer to properly lube it.

I had my sway bar replaced and the bushings back in the fall. The clunk has not returned and they even used the D bushings. Must be the new sway bar that fixed the noise.

I gave up on the dealer.
I removed the bushing and used white lithium grease I bought from Autozone for $3.00. It's been almost 4 months and no squeak or clunk.
I just checked the bushing about a week ago and there's still grease on them.

What's up w/ that guy who made a fix w/ new brackets and such?
i replaced my rear sway bar bushings with some energy ones from auto zone, got the 20.5 mm bushings and bent the energy brackets into the same shape as the stock brackets then filled them with white litium grease ( the new brackets have grease ports) 2500 miles and not a single sqeak or clunk and the car handles flatter than ever! only problem is it oversteers even worse now. (hand) i'll take some pics of the bushings/brackets when i get home from class in 2 hours.

Sorry if this has already been posted but what happens after warrenty? I have 52k right now and the clunk is back... more than ever! Will the dealer still take care of it?

They should. My buddy just had the whole setup replaced (swaybar, endlinks, bushings) about a month ago. He has around 70,000 miles, no extended warranty. Any pre-existing, reoccurring condition that started when the car was under warranty should still be fixed after the warranty has expired.

I got the E bushings since a month ago today. These were the part numbers I had

BN7H-28-155A Stabilizing plate x 2
BN7H-28-156E Stabilizing bushing x 2
BP7H-28-151A Stabilizer

Anyways..the clunk just started to happen more often. Gettin really annoying. Now it's almost constant with every little bump. I even got AWR adjustable endlinks..and that didn't solve anything.

yeah, im with newf! its been a year in october! I wonder if everyone else actually got bad C or D bushings and think they are E ?

seriously.

Rear Bushinds

Just bought a used MSP about a month ago. When I got the car there were no signs of bushing wear and there were no noises. I raced one autocross and the next weekend took it to a drag strip, now I have squeeking in the front suspension and clunking in the rear. I asked the Dealership the history of the vehicle and if the bushings were ever replaced and they said yes.

What would you recomend I do, aslo are there any aftermarket bushings that are better?

For oversteer, is it better to put softer or harder bushings on the rear to equalize the front and rear suspension? When I had my P5 I could rip through the slolums but now my ass end wants to slide all over the place in the MSP.
