Clunk Updates

Can I go to a dealer to have a TSB fixed even though I don't have a warranty since I bought the car used? Sorry for the threadjack but if this becomes a TSB or something I wanted to know if I could take advantage of it.

the clunk is a TSB.

The dealer is ordering bushing for me, I'll have them put them in monday. All the dealer said was "your bushing were worn out"

I agree with Newf that multiple people yelling is better than just 1. If/when the hesitation on the MSP gets fixed I'm willing to help in the "clunk campaign" any way I can. I cannot forsee myself going to the dealership for a band-aid for the next 4 years on this damn car.

Volley2six,

Why do you not have the remainder of the factory warranty. They were good till 50,000 miles. I bought mine used last year and have used the warranty several times for the clunk and for work on my brakes. It doesn't matter that it's used. It still has the remainder of the factory warranty.

Hmm....Well I bought it from a used car dealership (not Mazda) and they only offered me their warranty. I didn't have such a good experience with them so I didn't want any other ties, I just wanted my MP3. So I was under the impression that I don't have the dealer warranty. I don't have any paperwork for it at least.

i would assume you still have a factory warranty. Go to your local dealer they should take care of you. how many miles you got?

hey guys, i got the same response- AUGUST 6.

Japan and U.S. groups are working on a better solution. This style of communications is a little unconventional, but if your dealer and Mazda costumer service has no solution by October, give me an email. Thank you for your patience and loyalty.

I finaly got the MP3 off of jack stands tonight and HOLY s***! I forgot how bad the clunk really is. A damn rock in the road makes it clunk!

I don't even know how my car sounds without the clunk. It has been doing it from the day I bought it. I must have been to excited about the car to even notice the freakin noise. I can't wait till it has no sound. Sounds like I'm carrying a dead body in my trunk...lol

just out of interest do you know if this was an isolated incident to northern america? i have a similar problem with a 99 protege BJ and am now confused!!

any help would be appreciated!!!

i have an AUS spec (close enough to JDM.... ok not really) but the starnge thing is it sounds like its only coming from one side.... funnily enuff the right hand (drivers) side also the muffler side.... i had the bushings replaced recently and it did disappear for a while, when it returned i took it back to a suspension shop, and they had a look at it... they measured the shocks etc and found them to all be measuring with low pressure, but also mentioned that they had measured the same/similar readings in the ford laser (cheap ford 323 rip off) and the newer bj 323s.....

it gives me the s****, but i don't think mine is quite as bad as you guys... i generally don't have any cold problems.... been only having lows atm of about 11C and highs of 27.... summer is about 35 highs...

does this sound similar to anyone elses problems???

Yes! You have just exactly described my "clunk" problem with my 2000 ES!!!! I kid you not - it had the clunk just like you describe. I got mine "fresh" from the factory (I had to order it) so I'm not sure what that means about the "northern theory." I never went to the dealer to get it checked out because I was just too damn lazy to see what the noise was - to me it sounded like something was clunking around in the trunk. Then I buy my MSP and, holy s***, same damn problem for me and 75% of everyone else.

No s***!!! I can't wait either...I had no idea it was on "normal" proteges 2. That's messed up, Mazda has a bigger problem then they realize. Dumbasses better come up with that fix asap or we should all go riot they're plant...LOL
Hey Girth, were in WI are you from, My wife is from a little hole in the ground(clinton)by Beloit but we live in victoria bc now.
ANGERED MP3 OWNER....STILL.......

girth i live in australia... i was wondering if anyone knows of it happening anywhere else in the world!!

ps did anyone else have any recalls on their cars??

i had an ignition coil prob that was replaced - but nothing else.

so obviously this would conclude that clunk could in fact be a problem at the factory... but when cars are shipped they have stuff put in to stop the supension from bouncing... does anyone think that could be a prob there???
