Clunk Updates

i might have to go there, my dealer are a bunch of pricks. The only guy that was helpful left and now works for ford.

are you guys talking about the clunking sound that we get when we go over bigger bumps that have a bit of a drop to them after and it sounds like something just dropped out like a clunk?
because in my p5 I get a clunk in the back right side of the car when i hit some bumps. I just kinda assumed that it was because i installed my eibach springs wrong but I took it all appart and it was proper.
someone get back to me on this I want to know what the hell it is because it is only the back right corner.

Unless you got the MP3/MSP setup on your P5....were' talking about something else.

No P5 I know of has the clunk.

well can you describe the clunk to me because I have a clunking noise in the back right wheel and it has been there since stock..
and it shows up every once and a while when going over a bump.

the clunk isn't in a particular place, its just from the back end. the sound actually comes from the middle of the car because thats where the failure is taking place. If you have a problem sound coming from the wheelwell, check the springs seating and or your strut mount towers to make sure they are tight.

basically anytime u hit the smallest bump or manhole or any dip it makes this anoying sound, like your spare tire is bouncing around in your trunk, and all the people in your car say "what the hell is that" It makes your car sound like a POS. Especially in my area where the roads aren't that great.

I have the MP3 struts and sway bars, on my P-5, and I have "The Clunk", big time.:bs: I have changed my bushings about ten times. I have tried Energy Suspension greaseable bushings. Nothing works.
I was thinking of replacing my rear bar with the AWR Racing 21.5mm bar. Not sure though.

to the guy that told me to check out the mounting of the spring seating.. I have done that man it is in there perfect.. shrug one day I will source it out.

you guys are gonna kill me for sayin this but........why not try and use the part(s) from a Pro5 temporarily event he sway bar?

I have posted this before ,I have noticed that the sway bar is very close to the cross member . I installed a MP3 rear bar on my 01 Lx ,i had the clunk as well . I fixed this by using the spacer that AWR Racing uses on their bars ,worked like a charm ,No more rattles .

Rather than use urathane bushing ,I used the stock 15mm bushings from the LX swaybar ,opening them up to fit the MP3 rear bar .

well mine failed again, lasted 4 weeks and the clunk is back, DAMN, I was hoping to get through summer, but oh well...:bs:

patience. Things like this take a LONG time to solve. I haven't given up, and once I know something 100% concrete, you will all know.

Until then, try to hold on. Mazda is working on this.

I just finished playing with my sway bar and i hope this last. I was planning on taking it in this week but it is too much of a Pain in the ass.

heres what i did

Added 3 washers between the lower bushing bracket and the frame. just in case it is hitting the frame of the car. Which i checked for wear and didnt see any. I figured i may as well try it.
Then i cut some rubber cove base the size of the circumfrence of the sway bar. Then put the bushings on top of the rubber cove base. Then i had to beat the brackets back on to go over the bushins. The rubber cove base adds at least an 1/8" of thickness making it a nice snug fit. Then i boted everything back up.

went for a ride down this really bumpy street were my clunk is the worst, and im CLUNK FREEE!!!! wooohoooo.

Cant wait to see how long it last!!

BTW you can tell the bushing were beat, they took the paint right off the swaybars.

update

clunk is gone, but now i have this creaking noise. I took off the washers but it still creaks. Im dropping my car off tonite, we will see what they say. Im just gonna leave the vinly pieces in there and tell them mazda suxs ass and better fix something fast!!!
Im thinking if they dont have something soon, i will just order the whole rear awr saw bar with bushings. It seems no body that has that sway bar gets a clunk. It also comes with beefier endlinks.

newf so are there anymore news?

Im just this close to giving up on the car and going for something else.........i mean.. its been like almost 2 yrs since the release of the car.... and Mazda still hasnt come up with a legit fix for it...

I wouldnt be as pissed if Mazda kept us updated on their progress on the new bushing.....but right now we just dont know if the fix is even being worked on... :(

I will say this. My new car is sitting on the dealer's show room floor. 1 Titanium Mazdaspeed. I want the clunk Fixed before I get it.

Now, if your new car was sitting there, waiting to be driven, how hard would you push to get the fix situated? :)

My car arrived last Wednesday. I'm doing everything I can guys. I am very pleased with the efforts I've seen so far. Don't give up yet.
