Clunk Updates

I am getting a set of sway bar bushing this weekend . i have a MP3 rear sway bar on my LX 2.0 . I'll let you all know how they are .

Has anyone tried the Racing Beat original bushings the urathane ones?

I wasnt aware that they made them. also saided18 said awr has some, im goin to the dealer mon or tues next week. Im gonna see if they will pick up the tab. if not im gonna start experimenting with urathane ones.

1st MP3 in NH : how do yours hold up in the cold NH winters??

I had the GM tape as well...needless to say, I'm making an appointment to have them replaced again...I think I'm up to 5 sets or so...If I went in every time the clunk came back, I'd be up to 50 or so, but I just deal and get more annoyed w/ Mazda.
Can't wait to buy a german car someday.

I emailed Energy Suspension about making a 20mm poly-urethane GREASABLE bushing for us (they only have non-greasable bushings in 20mm). No reply yet. I mentioned they'd make a killing off of us MP3 owners :).

I've given up on MazdaUSA coming up with a fix. As far as I'm concerned all of this "The head techs are meeting to..." and "The guy from Japan is flying in..." is just a bunch of Mazda BS. I do not expect a bushing fix from Mazda. **** them.

i had them replaced once last summer and within a week they were clunking again.

If I feel Mazda isn't going to fix this problem, I won't be getting the Speed, I'll be getting a lawyer. I'm serious. But that's not the case so far...... But, I will only wait for so long. Matter of fact, I have had a lawyer on "stand by" for a while now.

Anyhow, I got a email last week from one of them, basically, there's still no ETA. That's all he mentioned, there was nothing new. So if Mazda is blush%^&*& their way out of this, they ran out of stuff to tell me.

....I'm still bugging them, just not pushing as hard as before.

Its not that I don't believe you. You've been the man as far as I'm concerned in trying to get this to be fixed. Its just that it seems Mazda is stringing us all along. As long as they keep saying "No ETA yet, but we're getting there" and "A head engineer is coming up from Japan" blah blah, you really have no reason to use a lawyer and they know this.

I'm pretty much done with bushing changes at my dealer. I'm going to hope Energy Suspension makes a 20mm greasable...

BTW, nice pic of your MP3 :P.

a fix would be great, but if i can get some direct swap energy bushings. i will buy them in a sec.

I was looking at the pics again and noticed that the bar is close to the rear cross member As I have said before I have the Mp3 rear bar on my LX .I realize that the MP3 and MPS use a different rear cross member ,but maybe the AWR spacers will help with the clunk ,The spacer moves the bar away from the cross member by about a 1/2 an inch . I think the clunk is the sway bar hittng the cross member while going over rough roads or cornering . My car clunked before I put the spacers on . I'll try to get some pics posted this weekend of how my set up looks .

Interesting idea.
Keep us posted.
Somehting about a bushing cuasing a clunk never made much sense to me.

doomer, I know where your coming from bud....nuff said.

Thanks for the comment on the pics. more in the photo section :

Definitely try to get some pics of those spacers. You'll be considered a God around here if you can find the solution to the Clunk.

Can someone with some evperience on this clunk (sounds like there are a few) tell me how long the dealer needs to have the car to get the bushings installed ?

Also, is if just the '156D' bushings I need to refer to when I talk to them or is there a full part # I should go in armed with?

Thanks
PM

Its a quick swap..should take no longer than a morning visit...I've been in and out in an hour or two and that's including an oil change as well. 156D bushings and some "molecular tape" from GM is the latest attempt at a solution...it should get you through the summer if you have them put on now...(if you're in a somewhat warm climate...
