Clunk Updates

Mine have been good since October/November. Canadian winter to, but not Nfld winter that's for sure!

I was getting ready to put the summers on. Nice weather for a few weeks, getting rid of a lot of snow. And then THIS happens. @#$@#@#$# !@#$ !@ #$@!#$$$

I even ordered Zaino hoping to wax soon.

I might as well trade for a ski doo at this rate.

Wow, just made the connection. Newf... Newfoundland. LOL. Anyhow, I had mine replaced at the beginning of January. They seemed to hold up well. Occaisionally I'd think the noise was coming back, but it sounded different, deadened. This would happen when it was wet out and got a bit over freezing. If it was real cold, no noise, real warm, no noise. I figured, hey, they're onto something here. Then I throw the summers back on, do some harder-cornering for a few weeks, and its back with a vengeance. Oh well.

Well, that only took you 3 years :)

Newfoundlanders are often called Newfie's. say that like noof eeees.

Hence the nick name Newf. I've used it for many years. I've used it for years as my handle for lots of "computer" stuff. Some old guys might even know it from usenet/icq in certain "groups".

doomer, I'm too lazy to read back. Was that a new bar? or new E's on old bar?

well i now just dont have the clunk back.. i now have a bad squeak like the front swaybars... its annoying as hell

let me guess. It's quite warm out, maybe still cold in the mornings. Not raining a lot? Although the rain isn't that important.

I got the E bushings in early november and they started making noise again at the beginning of february (very cold winter here in Quebec). This fix lasted longer than the other ones but it is still a temporary fix. I will try to get a new sway bar for the next replacement (must be the 8th time) as a last attempt to solve the problem. By the way, I got a new noise and it is by far the worst I ever heard coming from a car that is almost brand new. It's kind of a permanent creaking noise coming from the rear suspension. It also occurs when the car is stopped and you push down on the rear bumper. Damn, it even happens when you sit down in or get out of the car. Anybody here ever had that kind of problem?

^^^^^^ Holy ****. This problem JUST started happening to me on Saturday, and I was JUST about to post about it! I'm not sure if its the springs, strut, or the bushings reaction to being worn. I can get it to happen when I accelerate slowly from a stop and the load comes onto the rear, or even by opening the trunk, and pulling the rear end up a bit, and pushing back down. I'd love to know what this is.

Are you on stock suspension? I am lowered with SPOOL springs.

:). Old bar, but the dealer swore to me that the bar wasn't worn, or they would've replaced it. They've replaced things without hesitation before. So who really knows. Now I'm not sure if its the bushings clunking, or that weird squeak from the back that made me think they've failed... UGH So many noises. I should just dynomat, and then dynomat the dynomat :D.

Doomer, everything is stock. It's been happening to me for 2 or 3 weeks now and it's getting worse each day. I have about 45k miles on the car.

Great... I thought it was because I'm lowered. Maybe I'll jack up the car, make sure the spring is seated right and the bolts are tight this weekend.

Yup, this happened to me while trying out different bushings for Mazda. The poly urethane ones I tried were horrible. As soon as I sat in the car, you could hear the back like a bed squeaking when your doin' the nasty!

This could also be the rear struts. During this time of year, when it kinda cold and dry out. They seem to make that squeaky bed noise. Happened to my MP3 every fall/spring for a few weeks or more and went away.

Your bushings weren't put on right bud. They should not move like that at all. Even with the teflon coating on the inside, there should be no noise like that.

Mine is the same. I had my fiancee lift the back end and compress from the trunk, hmm maybe I shoulda did that part, LOL what a jerk I am :D, and it seemed to be coming from the bushing. Its definitely clunking away too. Glad its not (hopefully, but unlikely) the strut.

My buddy who still has his MP3, was showing me two days ago how his rear suspension crunches when you push down on the car and sitting in the front seat as well. Sounds like a new problem to me. He has the E's with a new bar just like I had before my car was repurchased.

not a new problem at all. This has been going on since 2001

I had ALL my struts replaced on mp3. Struts mounts (which seems to help more then the struts did), all bushings, every bar and everything.

I found that it's this time of year. Fall/Spring. Where you get this colder dry air. Even more so when it's really cold over night, but in the morning it's warming up. Change in temps.

There are vaious noises that the suspension makes. This is nothing new. This also has been mentioned here 10000000000 times.

Struts may squeak like a bed during cold temps. Lube it, may fix it. Pushing on the car can replicate the noise

All bushings have a crunching noise when going over bumps. GEt new bushings, new ones for the front are out, I have not tried them.

Some cars have a problem with the strut, where there is a gap at the top. Makes a popping noise, almost clunk like when the car goes bumps but much much quieter and not very common. Can't be replicated by pusinging strut

Ive got about 3000 miles on my e bushings now. I have yet to hear a clunk, in actuality i never heard a clunk from my stock bushings. The only clunk i ever heard was the day the new bushings were installed, but im guessing that was the new bushings seating in. I live in florida, pretty hot here. Only problem i have is like everyone seems to and that is the creak in the struts. only heard on speed bumps though. As far as the rattles in the back, check the covers for where the 6x9s should go for speed owners. mine came loose causing the rattle. easy fix and i never had to complain to mazda!

well of course this would happen to me..anyone have a site where the tsb says that the clunk is a problem cause my dealer seems to think differently and cant find any tsb on a clunk..any info asap is helpful..thanx

or does anyone have a dealer that has replaced their stuff w/no hassle and maybe a number to where they can call that dealer and verify that they do cover this under warranty..thanx
daniel

i dont know the site link for certain. but my dealer was cool about it. I always print tsbs and bring them up there to b**** about s***. like the brake hubs, sway bar, ecu, etc. they almost s*** a gold brick because only dealers and service people for mazda are supposed to see them. theMAN has a site, best one out there. im sure someone will post the link
