Cloth to Leather Seats: Airbag Problem?

Hi folks,
We own a 2003 M6, but are thinking of buying a 2010 CX-7. We don't want turbo, and the other models only have cloth seats. We have dogs, so cloth is not a good idea. But is re-upholstering the cloth seats with leather dangerous to airbag function? One dealer says he does it all the time; another thinks it is a bad idea. I'm confused. Thx, Elzie

I think it would be best to ask the shop doing the upholstering. I personally don't see why it would be a problem if done by a knowledgeable shop.

I've had it done through the dealer.

2009 Sport - same situation as you, the sport had everything I wanted except for the leather seats and the Touring I was looking at cost too much for the leather and bose.

The dealer had it done with classic soft trim - came back great (I got it in two-tone) You can get it customized if you like. Apparently they do this all the time, so no issues with the airbag.

I would try to negotiate the price, too, at time of purchase. The leather costs about 800-900, so you have some wiggle room with the labor costs.
