clicking sound

Yeah, I get two kinds of clicking from the engine:

1) quiet, consistent rhythmic clicking that's always there regardless of temperature -- this is the fuel injectors and is completely normal
2) periodic rhythmic clicking for only a few seconds on a cold start, usually on acceleration -- only had this happen once or twice, and not at all after my most recent oil change (which was at 5k, car has 9k on it now, and my first oil change was at 2.5k)

I don't think either is a problem. Usually when engine clicking noises are bad, they're consistent and get progressively louder/nastier sounding. Mazda's been making the MZR ZY motor for several years now so if there were any problems with the design, they'd have ironed them out by now.

#2 above is apparently "normal" for our vehicles. It sure sounds like a relay and after 12k miles I rarely notice it anymore though I know it does it on starts.

Alright thanks for the reassurances! Hey Drweb, what color is your M2? I was cruising in St. Paul near the U of M and seen a green M2 touring! is that you?

All Mazdas are clicky. My Protege5 did it, my Miata did it, my Mazda3 did it, and of course the Mazda2 does it. I just tell people it's a diesel.

Well, the two single clicks you get when driving forward after starting the car are different from what I was getting at with #2. But yeah, those clicks are normal too ;)

Nope, mine is Aquatic Blue. I've seen one or two of the green ones driving around though.
