Clean XM Radio setup?

Hello there, I've had XM radio for a couple of months for my P5 but I did a really quick n' lazy job of installing it, it's basically mashed into my glovebox with all the extra wiring in there. It's a pain in the ass to change stations and such.

So now, I'm looking for a really simple but clean install that I could do myself.. the XM radio did come with a little dock, but it doesn't fit anywhere. I was thinking of setting it up on the open ashtray, it would be a good location, but the radio + the power adapter next to it would block both my cupholders, which I use constantly.

Any of you guys had it set up in a different place? Any pics? Any help?

Thank you =)

Do you have an after market head unit?
What I did when I had a single DIN stereo is I turned the pocket/stereo holder upsidedown, and bolted the receiver to the pocket, it looked pretty clean.
Now I have a dual DIN that tunes XM and sirius on it. That is the cleanest setup.

Yeah I have an aftermarket headunit.

What you mean is that you had the headunit at the bottom, and then you bolted the radio to the pocket which was on top, for it not to cover your headunit, right?

Not a bad idea at all, I'll look into it.

And how did you have your power adapter connected? To the cigarette lighter, or you had it connected directly to your battery?

If it was on ur lighter, does that mean you had a wire running from the front to the back and behind the pocket?

Took apart the adapter and wired directly.

Directly from the battery, or from the lighter?

If I were to wire it directly from the lighter, would I still be able to use the lighter for something else, like charging my phone ? I don't know much about how it works.

Btw, thanks for your answers, sounds like a good plan.

I just ran it to ACC power (the red wire on your head unit), and ground of course. I just took apart the adapter, and spliced the wires, then covered the circuit board in electrical tape so it wouldn't short on anything. Make sure you don't just run the full battery power to the radio, you'll need to use the proper voltage supplied by the adapter.

Oh, and if you get a whine sound when you listen to it, move the ground further from the head unit. (Happened to me at first)

i mounted my xm radio where the ash tray use to go. looks fine and doesnt block the cupholders at all.
