Circuit's Protege5 Audio System Build

Dynamat'ed the hatch floor today. Used about 4 sheets. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pic.

Wow, that's pretty :) very nicely done mate

Thanks! I need to do another layer, but I ran out of dynamat. The rear doors, hatch lid, and floor took up my whole bulk pack (36 sq. ft.). I plan to get another bulk pack to split between the front doors and hatch floor again. Eventually I'll get under the headliner and the floors.

I have a couple of questions: How did you run the sirius antenna to the car antenna openning, did you just have to remove the headliner? How is the reception for the SIRIUS? Is it just as good as having it on the roof? Please let me know because I like how clean it looks, but don't want to do it if I have to sacrifice reception because SIRIUS is all I listen to! Does the 3M tape come with the shark fin?

You can just pull down the back 1/4 of the headliner. Just be careful not to put any creases (sp?) in it. My Sirius reception is perfect. Just as good as when I used to just have the antenna on the roof. Yes the shark fin comes with the tape to hold it down.

the system looks sweet man. it will be worth every penny (and especially at the price you probably paid for it haha). question though I'm doing the exact same sirius install that you did, just wanted to know where you got the shark fin? thanks!

Circuit - that sh*t looks, SWEET.
If you're gonna get more dynamat and aren't going to get thru the points at work, CMT down on Industrial has a trunk kit cheaper than your cost last I checked. $69 for a trunk kit [2x-18"x32"] and the bulk pack that you had is $120.

Have you done the new suspension yet? Let me know, I'll stop by.

VG Visual Garage the company that sells the sharkfin, and they are an approved vendor of the forum. The plus side is that it's painted. http://www.visualgarage.com/home.html

Thanks! I got enough gift cards from points that I can get the trunk kit for free at work. Then I think I'll go with RAAMmat since it is about $120 for 62 sq. ft. (double the amount of the dynamat extreme bulk pack).

The Tein's are going in tomorrow! SS Coilovers FTW!

The VG antennas are actually sold by RPM. They had a group buy on here not too long ago.

Picked up a trunk kit of dynamat (for almost free because of associate rewards) yesterday. Also received the dual 10" sub box I ordered. Looks too big in the hatch since the rear is not slanted, so there is a lot of wasted room at the bottom of the seats. I may just end up making a box.

Actually got some work done this week. So glad school is over for the summer. Got a layer of RAAMmat over the dynamat and then lined the entire hatch with Ensolite. Also got the amp mounting board cut and the amps mounted. RCA's and power/ground/remote wires run.

To do still:
  • Make a mount for the SR6500 x-overs in the driver's side indentation of the hatch area.
  • Run speaker wire from amps to their respective speaker/subwoofer locations
  • build false floor the cover amps/dist. block and give a flat surface for sub box
  • 2 layers of RAAMmat in each of the front doors
  • 1 Layer of Ensolite in each front door
  • install Polk SR6500's in factory locations
  • Tune, tune, tune

Why not make the box wider, shallower and put a flush trim board on it?

You really dont even have to rebuild the box, you can just add the face board. Just seems like you have the room and might be able to get back the trunk space.
I have also seen people use the space on the left and right of the box to hold the windows for the crossovers and distroblock.

Looking good.

Thanks! That is the next iteration of the box. I got that prefab box for $20 from work, so it is just to hold me over until I can take measurements and order one from elemental designs that fills that entire spot.
