Chips like crazy...

I just bought a PR5 on Tuesday. Sorry to hear about this. My wife's old Pontiac had ironclad paint; that stuff was tough!

Here's my solution to chipping. Instead of a wax, apply an acrylic or polymer sealant to the car. Put on a few layers and use that as your defense against gravel, etc, within reason. Slap on new layers periodically and you should be good for up to a year, although YMMV, of course. I use acrylic myself - Klasse All-In-One and Sealant Glaze.

The clear plastic film stuff still is a good idea - heck, do both.

I had a chip a few weeks after I got mine. I was shocked because I have never had a car have the paint chip so easily. I started a bad paint thread myself last month.

We just bouht our car last week and I came home yesterday to tell my wife we got a chip already. I guess if you get a bunch of chips it would at least make some design. I think eventually we will just get a carbon fiber hood.

Potential buyer of a great deal P5 here.

Are we talking tiny specs of paint-sized chips here or pea-sized chunks?

Some say you see black primer underneath, others bare metal (light color). I would like to know because one dealer has a 5 spd in Black Mica, but think I can find the silver too. What do you recommend?

I just had my oil changed on Saturday and was talking to the service writer about it. He said to bring it in during the week and show the service manager. Might be able to have it covered under the paint warranty. What they will do about it I dunno. Maybe repaint the front bumper and use a better quality paint and clearcoat. Who knows.

Paint warranty? Anyone have any more info on this?

I don't think there is any kind of paint warranty thing. When i got my MP5 less than 5 days old. i discover there is 3 chips windshield and i ask them for warranty they just told me is my problem. The speedometer just show 500km on it. I never bring it to highway and never end tail other car. Where the chip come from?

I think Mazda don't have good quality for they car. Or may be because we paid such a cheap price that y u got such a crapy quality stuff.

As conclusion .... paint works- SUCKS... Windshield- SUCKS and road noice - LOUD even with undercoat.

The good things is the car has good perfomance and handling.
