mazda3 5 door
was checking some links and prices out on the web and when i went to the draxas website there is this news flash thingy saying that superchips are making a chip for the mazda3 and they are going to be selling it soon. ??? i went to the superchips site and they deal with domestics only. a lot of ford yes, but the 2.3mzr motor is different then the 2.3 in the focus. vvt and all that... just thought i would through this out there, i am skeptical but at the same time would love a couple 100$$ dollar performance up grade that will give 10+hp and 15+ ft lbs... any thoughts? (bj)

it'd be nice. but i thought that the 3 had some wierd stuff(what i like to refer to as alien techonology) when it came to its computer system?

I have talked to Nikolas at Draxas about this. Super Chips Tuning is making a module specifically designed for the Mazda 3. They have been working on this for awhile now because it was more difficult for them to hack into it since it was imported from Japan and Nikolas also wanted to wait until the new version the Excalibrator 2 came out . I'm sure that there will be plenty of good gains. The last time I heard, the estimate was around 15 hp and 15 tq. Stay tuned as this will definately be a mod to have.

Matt, PLEASE keep on Nik about this...as I'm sure many others(espescially myself) would be greatly interested...

I got an e-mail from Jet Performance and they said that they would be happy to flash my ECU for performance, fuel savings or whatever. But the problem is that you have to send your ECU to them. Most of us cannot go without our cars for awhile so that is definately a big downfall. He also suggested that all performance mods be completed before doing the flash. If your up for it, they are a very reputable company and have a lot of experience with Miatas.

you can ask him about here http://www.mazda3forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=12194

i know that all the major car chip companies have been working on tunable maps for these cars. Diablo sport also had the Mz3 in the works

Granted JET Performance is a good company and all, but there are two major reasons why I would not even consider them.
1. Last time I saw a price for the Mazda 3 was on http://www.sfxperformance.com/parts/JET65001.htm. They want almost $240.00 and you have to ship your ecu to them and be without a car for a week or two.
2. They flash your ecu for you and then that's it. If you want a different tune you have to send it in to them, be without your car for another week or two, and spend another $240.00.

To me, that sounds like it could get real expensive real quick. I'm just going to wait for the SCT V.2 Excalibrator, order it from Nikolas at Draxas performance, and then be able to download new tunes anytime that I want for my car and whatever performance parts I decide to throw on it. Nikolas made it clear in another post about this that if we ordered it from him he would be willing to send out the tunes for free in an e-mail so that we could download it onto a laptop and then into the Excalibrator. Now it may cost about $100.00 more initially but this definately sounds like the right way to go to me.

I also e-mailed Nikolas and asked about the Tuner and if he knew when it would be done. I'm waiting for his response and will let you all know as soon as I here from him.

I have been talking to Modular Depot and the SCT is said to be out by Summer. But I wouldn't hold my breathe, I was last told it was going to be out November of last year!
And it is a Ford ECU. And other cars applications is what is keeping it from coming out.
And they are also waiting on the data logger to be added to the flasher!

I definately agree I was not all that excited that my ECU would be flashed and thats it. i would much rather have the option of reprogramming it when ever I choose. Not to mention put it back to stock if I ever needed. This superchips programmer is going to be my deciding factor on wether I am going to get a 3 or wait until a Mazdaspeed version comes out. If I can add an additional 30 hp with the reprogramming, intake and exhaust, I think I will be a happy man.

Doesnt flashing mean that they basically reset it so that it picks up on the mods you've done?? In other words it like a 1time only tuning for your current setup....then if you add something else you need to do it again right???

B/C if thats the case then its not too bad....time out of commission sucks, but $240 to get everything you can out of your mods aint bad....Maybe there's like a rush option or something?

The price isn't too bad, and yes you have to do all your mods before you "flash". But my concern is that I am in CA and they are pretty strict about emissions. There is no guarantee that my car would pass smog. I would rather be able to go back to stock settings if I wanted to.

yea they should but I swear they should just do a core charge so you can drive until it comes in then give them your stock... we did that for my tiburon at mussa racing.

sounds like if superchip can make it happen then they are the way to go due to more tunability...(is that even a word?) but it would deffinatly be nice to take advantage of adding mods like a cai and cat back with a re-flash to optimize atomization and fuel savings to boot....

You guys really need to see what the SCT has to offer, especially but the time it comes out for the Mazda3. If will have features for you to change yourself. And you can reflash it back to stock when you need to take it to the dealer, which you should always do. Instead of send your ECU out to get flashed you can simply downlaod files sent to you from whoever tuner has created a file for your car.
You can't even compare a crappy JET chip to the SCT. Only thing better than SCT is fully blown standalone.
