Thanks. yrwei52. The dealer promised the delivery on Thursday. Between setting the Oil change interval to Flexible. Can you please elaborate. I didnt get it
"Flexible" oil change schedule has been widely used in Europe and other countries for years to maximize the oil life and minimize the oil wastes. You don't need to guess the oil change interval (OCI) for different or changing environments and Powertrain Control Module (PCM) will do the calculation for you.
You set it in Maintenance Monitor under Application/Maintenance screen. Among "Maintenance", "Tire Rotation" and "Oil Change" tabs, select "Oil Change" and set it to "Flexible". You'll see it displays engine oil life in % until the oil replacement is due. "
Oil change due" is displayed in red and the wrench indicator light in the instrument cluster will be illuminated when the remaining oil life distance is less than 250 miles (500 km), or remaining days are less than 15 (whichever comes first).
This engine oil flexible maintenance can be used in Schedule 1, which otherwise has 7,500-mile or 6-month fixed OCI; AND Schedule 2, which otherwise has 5,000-mile or 4-month fixed OCI. The flexible OCI can be up to 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first. This is best suited for CX-5 owners with minimum driving miles, and he/she doesn't have to change oil at 6-month interval with only 2,000 miles, for example. It also benefits high mileage drivers as he/she may be able to change oil at 10,000 miles instead of 7,500 or 5,000 miles. Most importantly, using engine oil flexible maintenance won't void your 3-year/36,000-mile new-vehicle warranty and 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty!
This Maintenance Monitor serves only as a reminder. You can change your oil anytime you want, and reset it after the oil change. Each time you hit "Reset" in engine oil flexible maintenance , the oil life will be set to 100% again and start a new calculation. This means if you don't feel comfortable changing oil at 10,000 miles, you can always change your oil earlier and reset the engine oil flexible maintenance to 100% of oil life in Maintenance Monitor.
"
The onboard computer in your vehicle calculates the remaining oil life based on engine operating conditions when selecting flexible maintenance. Mazda Genuine 0W-20 Oil and Castrol 0W-20 Oil are required to achieve optimum calculation performance."
