haha sweet, not a bad idea... id much prefer it to be a simple fix that i never have to deal with again tho.

and b1gham: no sense deleting your post, i can see it anyway :) mod status ftw lol - anyway, thanks for the reassurance, i figured whoever i talked to was just either an idiot or new

I dont care if you read it... just had a change of heart for everyone to see... in either event dude... PM me if it becomes an issue... I have ya covered ok?

350 miles on my new MSP3, and the CEL went off this evening on the drive home from work...

Damn.

How does one find out the code, and how do you reset it?

It's been below 10 degrees here in Cleveland for the last couple of days. I garage at night, but it sat out all day.

its under warrenty mikek bring it to your dealer... THEY have to find it not you. Around here is -30 c and car running good (much less power under -20 tough) so over 1 c should not be a problem.

I had 2 cel too on my car. first was P2006 (bad imrc valve) wich was changed with the new part and now ok. Second was P0300 (engine malfunction or something like that) They removed the plug and run the motor a 4000rpm for a time cleaned the plug and put them back in. Now its ok.(there was a service bulletin for that)

I was called today to say my part was to be delivered this afternoon. They asked if I was available @ 9, 10, or after 2pm tomorrow so that they could install it.

Hey, if anything, the dealer has been there for me every step of the way. Props to Bill Britt in Fredericksburg. They boned me on me VW a few times...but the Mazda side seems a bit nicer (seperate people/buildings)

It's there now. I have a crappy Tribute as a loaner though...

I'll post my results.

I got my car back today. They had to keep it overnight until the part arrived. According to the workorder, the "intake runner servo" had failed and needed to be replaced. Apparently, this servo controls a valve with a steel flapper and a plastic housing. The two materials do not react to temperature extremes the same way, and a jam ensued which burned up the servo. The new part installed is labeled as a "modified intake runner servo". This part apparently includes the valve. I don't know the part number unless it's F0102ARX.

That's my understanding of the whole thing.

Is this the same valve issue that others have had?

I have had my MS6 in TWICE for the same purge valve CEL. I have only 5300 miles on the odom. First time happened at 250 miles, second at 4800 miles. I have only had the car 5 months.

However, each time it was covered under warranty. Do not let them BS you. My biggest complaint is that each time this happens, it is a two-trip minimum. One for them to plug in and check out what's wrong, the other to have the part replaced after they order it in.

My service adviser indicated Mazda is aware of this problem and is working on a solution. Here's my advice on a solution: fix the part, then extend our warranties. What a major PITA it is to keep going in for service.

Hey, I'll take that "crappy Tribute" over the Cobalt anyday!
(*see my thread about posting pictures http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123660163 )

Got a CEL at 1700 miles. Dealership told me it was the intake manifold valve (whatever it is) which will be replaced by noon today. Having driven an Acura for years, I never thought of my MS3 GT as a nice car. After driving this garbage Cobalt for a day, my MS3 now is looking like a Mercedes to me. I can't wait to have it back! *^_^*

Yeah, that's pretty bad. At least it isn't an SUV. I hate driving SUV's because they just don't feel stable at highway speeds. Not to mention that the Tribute is a warmed over Ford Escape, so all the same design and build quality issues are present in this thing. Honestly, after driving that for a day I don't know how people would consider a vehicle like this.

So what percentage of MS3's do you guys think have this problem?
Could we get a poll going?

hard to say. It's def climate related. FWIW, I had my parts replaced with the updated part. It's been 10F and 18F respectively and I've had no CEL and the car is running flawlessly. Lots more pep too.

good to know, yeah my CEL didnt come on til it was bitter cold outside. The part is being shipped from Japan, but I will be traveling this month, so it wont be on the car til mid march, hoping for good things

Was the CEL code P2006, and is this a newly designed part, or was the dealer just waiting for a regular part? I've had a few P2006's and want to make sure dealer knows what's involved before making the trip there....
My car has been at the dealer all day. This was the second time the CEL came on. They are replacing the Intake Manifold Runner Control Valve Solenoid. It is a new part design.
The first time they attempted to fix it they drilled the holes deeper where the solenoid attaches to the manifold.
The part will be in Monday so hopefully this will fix it.

I got my car back on Thursday, and they had replaced the same part you described. Fortunately, I was stuck with the crappy Cobalt rental only for 2 days. The CEL hasn't returned although the ambient temperature has been very cold. ^_^
