Check engine light comes on during snow storms

After driving in heavy snow, or if I have to do some plowing through some snow drifts(Canadian winters...sometimes you dont have a choice). The check engine light comes on, and the car runs really really rough. I noticed that in the intake there is some snow in it. Would this just be the air filter getting clogged up with snow, and choking the engine?

Doubt it's choking off the air completely, the warmth is melting the snow & dampness is ingested. Mine does a similar thing if heavy ass rain on frwy in traffic. For some reason I think these cars don't like mixing water with the air & fuel.

Hi

It could be plug wires. I had an old Ford Econoline van that always gave me trouble in heavy rain or snow. Next time it happens spray some WD 40 on the wires and see if that helps for a bit. If it does buy some premium plug wires

Did you Use Di-electric grease on the fittings?
You could still have a misfire from the moisture even with new wires.

I think water and ice in the intake is the best clue. If the MAF sensor gets wet, it's going to send erratic temperature readings to the ecu. If the filter element is wet, the air flow is restricted. I can't see any reason to look all over the place for hidden problems, before fixing the obvious.
