cheapest CAI(mazdaspeed)

Injen CAI, $210 shipped Promo, From Crossover Auto Performance, so far its been a week though and I havent got it, their not good with Emailing either apparently!

Ken @ ProtegeGarage did me a solid. Called him Wednesday for the MS CAI, he was getting more in Thursday. his whole staff was going to a car show that night but made sure that if he got them in he would make sure it shipped out for friday arrival(i'm in Chicago area). I honestly didn't think I would get it until the following monday but sure enough it came friday and I had it installed that night!

That made my weekend!(nana)

Indeed, voiceKoil. After paying for my Injen this weekend, i did'nt hear anything back, i called and they said they were sending them out today (tuesday) and would email me a tracking number. I emailed em the next day after hearing nothing and all i got in response was 'All orders have been shipped out'.

Kinda lame. It's been shipped but I don't know when to expect the intake. I figured a company that you hear about all the time would at least give me keep me up to date.

I went away from the Injen and got the MS so it wont mess with warranty and it doesnt use an oiled filter. Also the MS has a housing over the top half of the fitler to protect it better from water.

The $100 savings wasnt worth hassel from the dealer if I ever needed warranty work that could be related to the CAI.

Oh did I mention Tiffany was the best, lol. Go against the grain all you like but you wont get a better price and service then she has.

I ordered a dry flow filter from protege garage along with my Injen intake. Extra 40 bucks for a little peace of mind for my MAF.

And looking at the pdf of the installation, it looks like the airfilter is pretty well boxed in behind the bumper, wheel well guard, and underbody splash shield. I don't think getting it wet will be a problem, it's protected from all sides, with only a few slits to let air in.

It would have been cool if Injen sold the pipe with out the filter so you can save some money and get the AEM filter with out spending more money.

All you did is save $40 bucks for something that voids the warranty and isnt a mazdaspeed part. Not to mention that you will have to buy solution to clean it which will be another $10 or so so the savings is just dropping. To some its worth it but for me I am happy I didnt save a few bucks and regret it later.

I also tend to stick with the dealer. They can't fuss when their name is on the CAI. You know?

Sorry to hear your service was not so wonderful buying from them. :(

I expected more from crossover too, atleast a half prompt reply, but didnt even get that.. Corksport however is A+++ in my book.

Yeh I think we should be fine from hydro locking our cars lol, I mean if I didnt do it in my eclipse then theres no way in hell Ill do it with this, my eclipses was basically hanging 5inches from the ground, with no panels protecting it, I have a drift front bumper on it (big opening by filter), and my 18s ate through the fender liner, Eventually tearing it off, so yeh nothin protecting it! The filter was however good at catching bees, ahh the good ol days...

I like how it has detail instructions for everything except the bumper, its like

figure 1: find the battery, figure 2: locate the negative battery terminal, figure 3: get 10mm socket, figure 4: by using 10mm socket remove negative battery cable, figure 5: Remover bumper, Figure 6: locate MAF blah blah blah etc.... I thought they kinda skipped a couple steps with the bumper.. ;)

Just remember one thing Whitey, your specific dealer is the only one who can void your warranty. So why don't you try and get to know your dealer a little better...

The warranty isnt the onyl reason I picked the MS CAI. Its better quality with a better filter and comes with a housing to cover the top portion of the filter. The savings wasnt worth what you are not getting in the Injen kit.

Savings...please... I am not worried about savings when it comes to upgrading my wild child. All I care about is craftsmanship and reliability. And further more, you do not need a housing for the filter. I see in the picture that the injen points directly up as well as mine atleast 2.5 feet above ground. So what are you really saving on, tell me b/c you are not going to be driving in 2 to 3 ft of water... or are you ??? And this is coming from someone in Miami, fl

Yeah, it took me 1.5 hours.

You have to take off the under belly plastic liner, the wheel, the inner fender liner, then attempt to get the stock air feed system out... (I ripped mine out). Then throw everything on, then put all that crap back on...

It's still pretty simple, but there is alot you have to do to get to where you need to work.

Its not the fact that I saved $100 vs the Mazdaspeed cai that sold me on the Injen alone. Per dollar its the most effective intake out for our cars, its the fact of taking a step back and looking at what your buying. Not being brain washed on a mazda part. First off it dosent void the warranty because its not made by mazda, or because its an oiled filter. Its the same exact composite as a K&N filter, which also dosent void your warranty. Second, what exactly are you going to do when your filter gets dirty??? Because you know after 15k miles yours is going to be black and Judging from your logic your going to buy another Mazdaspeed intake because if you buy another companies filter "such as Aem" it will void the warranty right? lol. In the meantime Ill buy a 10 dollar cleaner kit and be able to have a perfectly new condition filter. Same thing with the sheild, its honestly pointless, I dont drive through swamps so I wont even get into details with that.

Going off of everything youve said your not going to buy any aftermarket parts right? Mazda has the best possible parts out for the car period right? So that means your going to spend $400 on springs to lower your car .6in too? Then your going to buy an inferior exhaust from mazda, and then your going to buy a $2000 set of mazda rays wheels? And keep buying 215/45/18 tires? Or blah blah blah etc... Just to stay inline with your mazda warranty? (sleep) What Im saying is JUST because its a Mazda made part, dosent mean that its the best part, or will always be the best part.

Honestly your logic dosent make any sense, and thats fine, if your ms cai gives you peice of mind, power to you, be proud of your mazda intake, and whatever else you like, but when something comes out that whether you admit it or not is a better value, dont act like whoever buys it is crazy

There Is No Need To Remove Bumper For Install Of Cai!!!

I didnt think there would be a need to, but the Injen intake is all one peice, unlike the MS intake, so I thought that might be the reason for that instruction to do so. Im going to try to get it in without doing it, but if I cant then no biggy, the front bumpers going to be going on and off a lot in the next month for my Fmic and Autoexe front

FYI for you since it looks like you need it.

The filter on the MS CAI is an AEM dry flow synthetic filter. The shiled isnt for going in puddles it covers the top half of the filter to prevent water coming from up top falling down below.

Thats cool you saved a few bucks and got something that you say is better but honestly the quality of both isnt in question. The question is if its worth the price difference and most seem to think it is not and I agree.

Be happy with your oiled filter and let us know when you get your first CEL on the MAF and what your dealer says. When you put a CAI on a turbo or supercharged car there is a s*** load more suction moving through that filter. It sounds sweet but when you hear the suction you will understand why an oiled filter isnt the best choice for this car.

Good luck and lets us know how it goes.
