Cheap Horsepower

Lots of bad info flying around in here. Let me clear some of this up.

air filter will get you maybe 3 whp for $40 so that is about $13.33 per hp.
No, an air filter will get you a whopping 0hp at the block or at the wheels unless you already have in excess of 300hp. And you don't.

You might get 2-3 horsepower if you remove the vtcs butterflys in your intake.
No, no gains. This has been proven. No gains even on turbo cars.

Your cheapest hp will be with N20. But not in the long run. You WILL blow your motor unless you also spend extra money on a new and stronger fuel pump, it has to be a wet shot, and you should also retard your timing. So the cheapest horsepower that you will notice is from a turbo. There is no arguement about it, it's all fact.

Where was this proven. It has been proven that the MP3 ECU only adds 3 HP. Do you really believe that a 2 in. Mandrel bent muffler adds 7 HP. Also if it didnt why would Mazda not add it in the MP3 if it doesnt effect performance and helps emmisions why not leave it in. Also traveler just did it and sais their is a noticible difference and The MAN said he noticed a difference with the FSZE intake manifold too. I also am not saying it is going to add 5 - 10 horsepower but 2 - 3 free horsepower or $20 worth seems worth it to me.

Look, I know for a fact. If you want proof, ask Terry, he dyno'd his without the butterflies in. ZERO GAINS. And the ECU in the MP3 is the ONLY reason for the 10 extra hp "at the crank" that is. So at the wheels, the MP3 only has probably 7 more hp than a normal Protege. A higher flow air filter WILL NOT show any gains at the wheels unless you already have a substantial amount of power. Substantial meaning at least 180 to 200hp. Please, try it out if you don't believe me. Go put a K&N panel in a 120hp car, see what the gains are. NONE. You may get some better throttle response, that's it.

I'm not here to bulls*** you and give you false hope. If you want any power, you should be saving your money for a turbo and not wasting it on frivilous parts like cams or catbacks or CAI's. You will have gained about 5 to 10hp at thw wheels by the time you have spent over $1000. Does that seem like it's worth it to you. You will get more power by paying me to get behind your car and push.

Well cold air intake $80, cams $300, 2 1/4 inch catback exhaust $120. Somebody telling me I have to spend $1000 dollars for 15 HP. Priceless.

Are you talking about vics or vtcs. Terry if I am correct has a MP3 which doesnt have vtcs. Unless he dynoed a non Mp3 or installed a p5 or ES manifold.

how much do i have to shell out for a big_ben??
$29.95 + tax and shipping

What? I dont' know where you are getting your prices. You will not get a CAI for $80. The cheapest CAI is $200. You are right on the cams though. And for a "good" cat back, you are looking at about $500.

$300 cams
$200 CAI
$500 catback
=$1000

I know what intake manifold you are talking about. Edwin does have the FS-ZE intake manifold, but he has no way of controling the VTCS. The US ECU has no connection to control the selonoid. Therefore, no gains.

Come on, we all know that the Protege does not make a ton of horsepower. The only thing that makes them feel quick at all is the fact that they have decent torque compared to the competition. If you want astronomical horsepower, buy a badass factory turbo car or build something with a big block. I bought my Protege knowing full well I'd never pull 300 horses out of her, instead I'd prefer to pull over a 1g on the skidpad. Know your cars strengths and weaknesses and focus on it's strengths. Our cars handle unbelievably well for a fwd. If you can't burn'em on the straights, kill'em in the corners.

where _do_ you get your information from?

edwin has a 2.0l protege sedan. his car came with an intake manifold that had VICS and VTCS. He replaced it with a JDM manifold that only has the VICS. so, yeah his car has the capability to control it. and he did get minimal gains from the manifold.

dude you got it all wrong...

you can add like 10-20hp just by putting a Type-R sticker on your rear hatch. no s***, my friend did it and he noticed a huge difference!

seeing as all Type-R's were off-white...

i think so... check out that page if you haven't already...its a guaranteed huge LOL.

I've seen a Black Type R driving around my town, they're not all off white.

The 2000s were offered in black or yellow, but the 1998s only came in Off-white.

. . .in any case, never in red.

THIS IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO TRUE !!!!!!!
Focus on handling with P5 and on HP with muscle cars !!!!!!!
If u really want the P5 2 be fast in straight line, only keep ur frame and like in drag racing, put a big block, big turbo or blower on it.............(evil) With that u'll be fast in straight line but forget cornering with s**** like that !!!
Just my $.02
