Yea man that sounds great! Ive talked to BOB there a few times and cant remember the other guys name that works in the shop. What kind of price did he quote you?
Yea... you've been there! I talked to both Bob and Jay there... he said that for installing and tuning both the AVC-R EBC and S-AFCII piggy back, it would be under $800. I know Ghost and Jonboy mentioned wanting to get a ems or piggyback, I'm sure we could get more, and maybe get a group rate or something.

That would be awesome.. I was planning on picking up a truck to just put all the b/s miles on so i guess i may want to hold on to my money or just put another reserve to the side!!

there are a several nice mazdas in the area. You guys should also check out carolinamazdas.com as well for info and meets. Im originally from SC but have been in TX due to military. But I drive to the east coast sometimes during holidays to see family and also fellow mazda friends.

theres me and like 5 other msps, a few p5s, some regular proteges, speed 3s and 6s, speed miatas and regular miatas. were everywhere you just have to know the right people

Just in case you're on here and just in case anyone still looks at the NC thread, I saw a gen one blue mica on Monday, I-77. You pulled off on the Mooresville exit. Nice ride, man, very nice. I was the gen one true red that you dusted on your way off the interstate, by the way I rolled over 105K on the way home that day, depressing. Great to see another nice MS3 nearby.

I really, wish carolinamazdas.com was still up. :(

I see MP5's all over Charlotte and the surrounding areas. We should get together one of these weekends and hang out. I remember i was at a car meet in Concord at Quaker Steak and lube and there was a dude there that was a Mazda Mechanic, he worked at one of the Mazda dealerships here in Charlotte, damn i wish i would of got his contact info cause my Mp5 needs some work. I wonder if he is on this forum.

NY, The guy at the Quaker meets may have been my roomie. He was at almost every meet they had there and he's a tech @ MSC. Was he a big guy?

BTW, FIRST POST. I've lurked this forum for a while though.

I think so, he was kinda of tall from what i remember, but even if it's not him does your roomie do work on the side? IF so i would love to meet him.

He really tries not to work on the side. Most people dont like to take their work home. Plus he's spoiled from working on a lift lol. What kind of work do you need done anyway?

Car is throwing a code P0171 system running too lean Bank 1, i think it's the Cat though. Not sure. I would like to buy some headers and put them on to delete that Cat all together.

A Protege only has a "bank 1". Have you checked for vacuum leaks? They seem to be the #1 cause of lean running. Other than that, I understand that your MAF isn't uncommon to cause issues with this. Also it could be an exhaust leak before the upstream o2 sensor or the sensor itself just being worn out. Might also be dirty injectors or dirty air filter. If P0171 is the only code you're getting, I'd doubt it's the cat because the reading comes from the upstream sensor which monitors before the cat. If you'd need some help troubleshooting, I may be able to help to a certain extent.

I've already checked and replaced the intake hose, I've replaced the O2 Sensor. Reason why i think it's the cat is i was getting Cat codes right before. Now all i get is a the P0171, cat codes have not returned. I've read that a bad cat can cause a P0171. But I'm not sure. I would hate to go spend money on CAT and that wasn't the issue. Air filter is pretty clean and i put some stp injector cleaner in the tank. I think i'm going to run it on the highway and see what i get.

UPDATE: Did the Fowler trick and cleared the Codes and ran it on the Highway, Codes didn't come back right away. I drove it to work and home which is a total distance of about 65 miles. Drove it around for a little bit on the weekend. No CEL, but i did notice the idle was real choppy, like it wanted to cut off. So after about 120 miles or so CEL came back on and i had the Following Codes. P0131 (02 Circuit Low Voltage Bank 1, Sensor 1), P0451(EVAP Emissions System Pressure Sensor/Switch Range Performance). P0660 (Intake Manifold Tuning Valve Control Circuit / Open Bank 1). The p0660 code I've never seen before. P0455 Evap Emission System Leak Detected, Gross Leak No Flow. So i let the car sit for about a week. I started it up this evening and no CEL, but idle is still Choppy. I'm tempted to drive it tonight to work to see what codes come back.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but I feel outside opinions can be constrictive. It still seems like it could be a vacuum leak. A p0660 on your car is most often attributed to the VICS solenoid malfunctioning. This can be the the solenoid giving up or the vacuum from which the solenoid meters is shat. A p0455 and p0451 of course come from pressure monitors in the emissions system and stand a chance to be caused by EGR or a vacuum problem. With the P0131: did you put the non-fouler on the upstream?
