changing tranny oil

The drain plug is the black thing on the bottom right of the diagram.

Like I said..I've no problem finding the drain plug, just the fill.

I'm heading over to the store to pick up a new jack. Not having the tranny 1" from my face should make a world of difference.

You can see the fill plug with the hood up and the car on level ground. You'll see a sensor plug and the drain plug is slightly above it towards the right and directly below the trans mount.

The fill plug is the huge 23mm bolt above the sensor like BOOSTR said. I got to it underneath so after you jack it up you should be fine.

Alright. I finished it up. Thanks for the help.
I also did the 2qt of Synchromesh 1qt of Lucas Oil Stabilizer. The difference it unbelievable!!! And the PO had just changed the fluid about 7000+/- miles ago

I bought the synchromesh and the lucas, should have I bought the synthetic or the standard petroleum? I just saw both nuts with the car up on ramps. I may do it right now!

I just used standard heavy duty. Just a heads up the Lucas is as thick as snot (and thats an understatement) and is pretty difficult to get in the tranny.

Thanks, I saw the "heavy duty" on the lucas, nothing on the synchro bottle. I put the 3 qts in a gallon jug and I will continue to mix it up and attempt it this weekend. The lucas is blending in pretty well. I loosened the (2) 23mm bolts and removed the upper one. No oil came out prolly because I had it up on the ramps, oil is "tilting" toward the back of the tranny.

Only the fill plug is 23mm. The drain plug is between 10-13mm, I can't remember. It is on the bottom of the tranny so no matter what angle oil should still come out. When I changed mine I had the front of the car on jack stands and it drained fine.

Just changed my tranny oil, both the drain and fill bolts are 23mm. That Lucas stuff took me almost an hour to get in and I ended up putting the last fifth of the bottle in my engine because I couldn't get it out. The trans shifts GREAT, far smoother than before. The old oil drained very quickly and I lifted the car on jackstands.

Both are 23mm as stated by a few people.

It was pretty tough trying to get it in there. I didn't think about mixing it before hand. I just put it in and let the tranny do the mixing. Glad you were successful, too.

That Lucas oil additive is probably closer to 140 which is why it takes a while to flow. Lucas does make gear oil in both recommended weights. Good thing winter is almost over with that thick stuff in your transaxles.

Lucas recommends a 25%/75% mix http://www.lucasoil.com/pages3-2/FAQ

As far as I know its the stock tranny. I looked at the picture somebody posted of the two bolts and the bolt I used is in between the two. Who knows, all I know is that the fluid drained out of it.

Plenty of times its near freezing or below during the winter here in Florida.

In Ocala and North yes. In Tampa no more than a few hours. Especially not during the hours I'd be driving the car.
The coldest it got this year in Tampa was 26* in December for a few hours and I'm certain the freeze point for the oil stabilizer is much lower than 32*

Put the 2 Qts of synchromesh and 1 Qt of Lucas heavy duty after work. Felt great last night (car was still warm) and it was not difficult to shift due to the 24 degree Cleveland temp this morning. I was a lil nervous about the potential stiffness with the lucas. I can shift into 2nd gear again without struggling! THANKS!!!

Be sure to mix the 3 qts together in a rinsed out and dried washer fluid jug or something like that (put the cap on and shake the crap out of it). It only took 3 minutes to get it all in! Tools: 3 feet of 5/8" OD (1/2" ID) clear tubing from home depot, lowes, etc. Small hose clamp and funnel. 23mm socket for both bolts. If the car is on ramps, the 3 qts of oil will not leak out where the hose goes in.
