i deceided that i want to change my tranny fluid to redline synthetics. More specifically, Redline Shockproof Super Light Gear Oil. Anyone have the part number for this? (I ordered some and left out the word 'shockproof'. the guy ordered super light gear oil. is this likely to be the same thing? is there a superlight gear oil from redline that isnt shockproof?

I've heard this stuff is supposed to be good. Thoughts?

i used to have a 90 240SX.
i blew the tranny, went and got a junkyard tranny, but redline in it. i swear i picked up at least 5-10 to the wheels. it was ridiculas.

lol, 5-10 at the wheels form trannie fluid?

care to explain how that works?

undoubtedly smoother shifting and supposedly tolerant to higher stress levels, harder shifting etc but gaining hp from trannie fluid.....your chron must be better than mine.

I've read a bunch about what Redline products are out there and don't remember seeing any other "superlight gear oil" that didn't have "Shockproof" on it. I'm pretty sure that you will be ok.

I'm gonna be changing my gear oil to the MT-90 stuff tomorrow morning, so hopefully I'll be able to feel a difference in shifting.....

how many quarts? it says that it should be 2.9 in the manual tranny but after i completely emptied it, i put in 3.3-3.5ish quarts...

did you have your car on stands when you where filling it? It is suppose to be level when filled. I put 3 qts in and nothing overflowed.. I plan on changing mine soon. I wonder if i can do mt-90& shockproof & LSD additive

I have been thinkin about doing this mod...But people have stated..that immediately they feel a difference..smoother..bla bla bla..

But than i hear people say like after couple weeks..it becomes worst than before they added redline in..anytruths to that??

Chas

I had a proble where some times my tranny didnt want to go into 4th. I added redline and i no longer have that problem. also the car goes right into 1st and reverse with out having to roll back or foward first. Its smoother, not that much though. The tranny seems worse untill it heats up:confused:

i agree, while driving, i can notice a smoother shift, not at idle though. i was upto 7200 rpms 2nite, no prob. shifting while driving is nice and smooth. sitting idle=same old. it wasnt on jacks, but i did have the jack on the driver side up. hmm.

Hey PHAudio?? Have you changed your clutch yet...or are you just using the redline mt-90 to fix it?

Chas

P.S. HOw about a link?

clutch coming soon. not using as a fix just wanted better shifting :) prolly wouldnt do much to fix it :)

i didnt use mt90, i used shockproof superlight gear oil. 3+ quarts.

link for what, redline?

on the manual it says to replace both washers and drain plug and oil level plug. is this necessary? if so, how much is this?

i didnt replace the washer, looked fine. drain plug? not really a need to replace- and oil level plug? dont even need to take it out let alone replace it...

How exactly do you fill the gearbox without removing the fill/fluid level plug?;)

I switched to MT-90 at about 30,000 miles...definately smoother cold operation...I didn't notice a whole lot after everything warmed up...I did notice a slight increase in gear noise though, not annoying and nobody but me seems to notice it...the noise started after I removed the extension on the shifter...got a little worse with the kartboy busings, and got even a little more noticable after the redline switch? anyone else notice anything?

i noticed that also. it's like a chattering/ high pitch grinding noise right? doesn't sound as bad as I written it though

ohh yeah, how exactly do you change the fluid without removing oil level plug?

Yep...like a real high pitch sound, that changes with throttle postion...If I let off the gas in fith gear while cruising, the pitch of the sound changes...under acceleration it also happens a little, but at 60mph or so with the cruise control on it is not there...The dealer claims it is normal diff noise, and can be amplified by adding too much fluid...which I may have done...I had a little over 3 quarts in, and just tightened the fill plug while a little was still seeping out...I will remove the fill plug with the car level and let all the "extra" oil drain out to see if that helps...Also I think my shifter and the polyurethane bushings transmit a lot of the sound back into interior...with the stock bushings and stock shifter it probably wouldn't be there...

but yeah like you said, it isn't bad...and people not use to the car don't notice it at all...

I have been using Redline MT 90 since last fall and no issues so far. Still much better when cold than the original fluid. Haven't noticed the driveline noise that people are talking about.
