Just got a new phone. I also got the car dock for it. Just wanted to see where anyone else has mounted Theirs? My dock has a suction cuo or sticky pad mount, I don't want to skrew up my dash tho. Please post up pics if you have them. Also has anyone ever hard wired in their charger. I would rather not have charger wires hanging around everywere. Thanjs guys

sorry, I have a blue-tooth capable head unit, so my phone stays in my pocket or cup holder.

Anyone know a good place to hardwire in a power cord for charging a phone so i don't tie up the cigarette lighter outlet?

Hey Gray, I actually just finished customizing my location a little bit yesterday. I'll try and get some pics and links to the parts up for you tomorrow.

Sweet as of right now it is just mounted to the windshield just to the left of the steering wheel. I kind of like it there because it is out of the way and easy to reach. i just haven't figured out how to run power to it without cords all over my dash. I want to run something into the dash and hard wire it but i don't know a good hot wire to tap into.

Tap into/ piggy back your radio fuse! That's what my gauges are hooked up to in my car.
You can just run the wire up the weather stripping to the holder (mines that green thing). When youre not using it it'll just drape over your ac vent.

Hey Gray, this is what I did.

I have a Mountek MT5000 mobile mount with a Kensington usb car charger "sugru'd" to the mount. I obliviously have an aftermarket single-din Headunit in place so having the extra space above radio helped me customize it a bit more. The Mountek mount is specifically engineered to go into a CD slot in your car though they say any decent sized gap will work perfect. I WAS able to wedge the mount in between the dash kit and the dash but it kinda pushed down on the dash kit a little more than I'd like. So I decided to take a dremel to the dash kit and made a perfectly sized slot to fit both the mount and the charging cable directly into the dash (you can see this in the second pic). The usb side of the cable was easily ran behind the dash and comes out below the ash tray (the cubby under the ash tray is actually open to behind the dash). Then I used sugru (the blue stuff you see, it's a moldable rubber of sorts) to affix the cable to the bottom tray on the mount. It works wonderfully! Obviously if you have a stock radio things might be a little different but I still recommend the Mountek mount. It has fantastic build quality and it works so GREAT in the CD slot that I ordered a second one for my miata with a stock stereo. The little screw underneath does obstruct the view of the clock a little but your phone has the time on it doesn't it? ;) Links to the items I used are below in case your curious about any of them. Let me know if you have any questions on the set up.

Kensington Powerbolt Duo, I like the duo because sometimes I might need to charge two devices plus it has a higher powered slot to charge an iPad.

Also since the kensington one is WAY too expensive if it's not on sale (I think I got mine for maybe 7 bucks after a rebate), I've include a link to another even more flush usb car charger. It's only $3 bucks but it works pretty well. Though the quality is definitely not like the kensingtons.

And lastly the Sugru. I love this stuff, if you're a DIY kinda guy (which is looks like you are from your planned car build) this stuff is wonderful. Great adhesion, water-proof, cures at room temp...This stuff has a million uses.
