I have been having the CEL (Check engine light) problem now for a while as I still await a new gas tank neck and gas gap.

can someone please explain to me what is going on with this issue. Today I filled for 1st time with 91 octone, the cel light goes out but not only that the car feels faster. and for the 1st quater of gas my mpg based on this quater are up? So now i find myself asking this the car manual says 91 but alot of us been adding 93 is there a balance between this?

I have been using 93 octance since day 1 of owning the car.
Mostly sunnoco, 2 times valero,1 time shell.
I fill up about every 2-3 days I am a field support tech.

But today was the 1st day I put in 91 octane from sunnoco

damn, fill up every 2-3 days...that will surely empty your pocket unless u get reimbursed.

If anything, I'd expect 91 to throw the CEL. Maybe I can shed a little light on the subject when I try a tank of 94. Been having problems with detonation again so I want to prove it isn't an octane or brand of gas problem. (notcool)

But wait a minute Sleepy your post above now throws me off, just to clarify my car manual says 91 octane recommended. So why would you expect 91 to throw the code if this is what the manufacturer recommends? I have not come across 94 octane I seen 87,89,91,93,99 octone.(nailbyt)

I meant it should be highly unlikely for an octane higher than 91 to throw a code and if any octane were to throw one it should be the lower of the two. Sorry bout the confusion there. :p

Actually there isn't any good reason for the ECU to throw a CEL with octane even as low as 87. It should simply go into limp mode.

Gas in WA comes in 87,89,92 and if your lucky 94. Unless you go find some race gas that is.

The lack of integraty of the gas filler neck will cause a CEL just like a leaking gas cap. There is a TSB out about this.
