CD player installation

hey guys,

Here's the deal. I pretty much have absolutly no idea of how to install a cd player in a car and I refuse to pay the $50 or so dollars to have some guy I dont know install it. I'd rather attempt to do it myself first and see what happens. I went to best buy today and picked up the wiring harness and plastic insert that holds the new cd player in place. I am going to purchases a Kenwood KDC-MPV5025 CD/MP3/WMA receiver from www.etronics.com for $139.00. If anyone has any input on that, feel free to give me your thoughts. Okay, is there a guide or faq anywhere that explains how to install a cd player into a 2001 mazda protege ES anywhere? If I just have some directions, I'm pretty sure that I can install this thing. Thanks for the help.

There is instructions for deck and front/rear speakers.

Thanks chiguy, that helped tremendously. Okay, one question. I went out to best buy and purchased this plastic insert to hold my cd player http://www.metraonline.com/product.aspx?sku=88-00-9000 . Will it work? The only thing is that in your guide that you posted, it showed a holder with a thin plastic rectangle around the main insert piece. I dont have that. All I have is the small black box, nothing else. Thanks again for all of your help.

yes, you got a basic pocket, that'll do the trick. just makes things kind of tricky. All that really matters isthat you must make sure that you bend that tabs in your HU's sleeve VERY solidly sothat they bite into the sides of your opening. it's also good to cut a thin strip of soe form of plastic or somethign to fit between your HU and your pocket to "cover" the small gap that may be left.

It looks like this Scosche kit has everything you need, including the pocket and what to mount the radio in: http://www.scosche.com/scosche/installation/kits/MA1537.asp
The Metra kit looks like it is only pockets...

This thread may help a bit more: http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8940&page=5&pp=15

It lists all the adapters and such, needed. I'm not sure if there is another full dash kit which includes the pocket and all the necessary hardware...

I'll reply back if I get more info...

Damn? 50 bucks? CarToys tried to charge me $120! They said it would take 2 hours labor plus parts. Bought the install kit and harness both for about 30 bucks, had my stereo hooked up in about 30 minutes. The only problem I had was the fake ass carbon fiber overlay blocked the hole just enough to make the radio not want to come out, but I eventually got it.

Seriously, try it. If you can work a crimper and match colors, you can do it! Good luck!
