Catalytic Converter...

Whats up everybody?
I have a corksport exhaust, and I want to get a catalytic converter to pass emissions. If possible, I would also like to get one that also makes the system quieter (too much drone right now) . So basically here's what I need:

- Catalytic covnerter or resonator
and I need it to do the following things:
- make CEL go away so I can pass emissions
- make the system quieter

Does anyone know of such a part or where I could get it?

you'll need a cat welded in, and then the second o2 sensor behind it

also, simply get a silencer for the exhaust. They are 25 from corksport i believe

I know of the catalytic converter process, however I don't know exactly where to get a cat or a reasonably priced one. I haven't seen a dyno, but silencers seem like they'd rob too much performance, something I don't wanna do. I'm considering getting the trunk dynamatted, but I wasn't sure if anyone's had success with this as far as reducing drone from the exhaust goes. But if anyone knows of a cat that also acts as a resonator and makes the exhaust quieter, please chime in.

Thanks

Pm GHL motorsports. I think he said they can ship a magnaflow OBDII compliant high-flow cat for around $100.

and those are very good cats, but if you live in cali thats not smog compliant.you have to have OEM cats in OEM position,no exeptions.

if you want it quieter I recamend getting a resonator from www.modernperformance.com
they have very good quility, and they will help a lot with sound.

and made from SS

Dynamat, or any damping product for that matter (e.g., Brown Bread) does not reduce the noise coming into the cabin, contrary to what one might have heard or believe. Dynamat and its relatives are damping products, designed to reduce rattles and resonance from, say, high-powered sound systems that typically shake and vibrate body panels and the like. They weigh down the parts and thus convert the sound eneregy in to low level heat, thereby reducing said rattles. Putting Brown Bread in the truck will greatly improve the performance of the subwoofer and stop the trunk from rattling when the subwoofer hits. I highly recommend it for those purposes.

If you want to reduce the amount of noise entering the cabin, then you should install a sounder absorber such as Dynaliner or Tacmat over the top of the Dynamat. This combination will most defintely cut down on the exhaust noise you hear.

Here are some places to read about and purchase the aforementioned products:

http://www.b-quiet.com/
http://www.dynamat.com/
http://www.audioetc1.com/

I purchased my Brown Bread off of e-bay for a reasonable price.

i just hate to see that exhaust all cut up, might as well done custom :(
it can be done nice, and it's just adding the things that it should have come with ,but didn't so as to keep price down.

I had ES add a cat to my CS exhaust.
It didn't really change the overall sound much. It might have changed the tone SLIGHTLY, but it may have just been the placebo effect.
When i was there, ES told me the resonator is very small and very thin.
Replacing the resonator would make a difference IMO, but that would then inclove chopping it twice.
I wound up selling it and getting the Apex Catted DP and the Greddy SP2.

how did the catted apex dp and greddy sp2 compare (sound, performance, etc.)? isn't that a lot more money too...?
not installed yet, waiting for spring.
yes more $.

First of all, it seems hard as s*** to find a resonator online, keep in mind i'm not referring to a muffler which can be found almost anywhere, but specifically a resonator. I did find a company called aero turbine that makes resonators though... their website is www.aero-turbine.com and they make a resonator with 2.5 inlet/outlet. Anyone have any experience with or heard of this company? Anyways, if I do purchase another resonator, would it be better to put it in place of the corksport resonator, or place it somewhere else and keep the cs one? (my goal is to reduce the excessive drone from the exhaust)...also, would putting another muffler somewhere along the piping instead be a good idea?

I guess you missed my other post

these are VERY well made and SS.I used them on my last car.

Thanks wicked, is there specific one I should ask for? Also, my question as to whether I should replace the corksport resonator or add another one somewhere along the piping has still not been answered.

I would add.

just so you know a glass pack,is a resanator.south summit has some that are a little bigger then the modernperformance ones,if you want.

in regards to witch ones at modernperformance, just go into any of the cars(check out the neon stuff)then scroll down till you see them.

yo wicked, i've had a hi flow cat welded onto my protosport downpipe.
it's a magnaflow hi flow cat designed for 4.6 liter V8's.
it's CARB certified, has an emmisions certification number stamped on the side of it.

i havent noticed loos of power at all vs. catless. i've even ran my friend at a triack, who has same exact mods but no cat, and we were dead even.

yeah it's a legal cat,but when you live in cali it's illegal to remove a factory cat, unless it has benn damedged.and when you do remove it you are required to have that cat on demand for proof for the following 6 months.

and it has to be replaced with another OE cat.

put it's no surprise that it performes just as well as no cat,if you look inside a HF cat you will see it hasn't much for restrictions, the hunny comb flows very well.

all it is,is a honey comb of metal coated with other metals like platinum, paladium, and such.

by the way magnaflow makes one of the best aftermarket HF cats.others just make them flow instead of focusing on function.

micheal i told you the trick, i dunno if you remember, call my cell phone. You don't need a cat at all. I passed inspection last week with a catless downpipe, i can show u an easy trick to get the cell to go away and you don't need to sauder or do anything.

you should not be able to pass, unless the tech didn't do his job properly, and letting you pass is a federal offense.

there is NO way you can pass without a cat, since checking the cat is part of a inspection.
even if you run perfect stochiometric with,hc 50,c02 13%+,02 .8%,co .9%.he can't pass you, because you are missing components.and if you just put on a cat shell he should see that, becuase the gasses would change..

What I did to quiet it down was put the stock muffler section back on. If you need to pass inspection swap the cats back in and pass then take them out once your done... I think they should fit since the muffler section bolted right up. Plus the silencer rattles like crazy and sounds like s*** IMO.
