Car was rear ended, now headrests seem loose?

My baby was rear ended last week by someone going 40mph or so. Now the headrests seem like there is a lot of play in them. The thing is, I don't know whether the play was there before. Can anyone check how much forward/backward play they have in their headrests? Mine seem to have about 1/2 inch either way. If I shake the seats, the headrests move even when they are all the way down.

Thanks in advance!

Probably Smacked your head into them pretty hard without even realizing it. Thats a lot of moment arm along those shafts...

I had the same thing happen to me when I got rear ended (reg 3).
My headrest had a good 1/2 inch play, wobbling back and forth.
I didn't notice it during my insurance claim and only knew about it once I got my car back and drove around for a week.

I took it in to the dealer and they warrantied the entire seat back (safety).

Or if didnt dealer didnt want to cover it, you could call ur insurance and let them know, better companies would cover it.

Don't the headrests have a safety feature built into them that helps prevent whiplash?

just call your insurrance and they better fix it right...they should be used to it...all they will do is order what's needed and piggy back in onto the orig claim

I work in insurance claims and to be honest, Ive seen some heavy rear enders and have never replaced a headrest on an estimate, however I'm not saying it's impossible. 40 MPH is a good imapct, probaby needed both rails and I wouldnt be surprised if the quarters buckled either.

If your dealer covered it great, but as said before, if they didnt, have your insurance look into it further, good companies don't like to take chances with safety items.
