Car starts by itself

I have a 2007 3i and had a remote start installed by a non-dealer shop and occasionally my car starts by itself. Never touched the remote. Last week, it ran all night. I was almost on empty when I went to my car in the morning. Anyone ever have similar problems? The installer says newer versions of the remote require two pushes of the button, so it isn't as easy to hit the start button by mistake. I never touched the remote, so I'm thinking of having it taken out. Thanks.

Occasionally? You should have brought it back to the installer from the first instance and have them fix it for free. I'd say take it out or upgrade if you really want that feature.

That's weird. I'd say someone scr3w3d up the installation. For one thing, if it isn't moved/driven in some period of time, say five minutes, it outta cut off anyway, like the door locks work.

Same thing happened once on my '95 Grand Am with an aftermarket remote-start system (installed by a PO). I was actually walking past it in my yard when it started on its own; keys were on the kitchen table. Ripped it out the next day and threw it in the trash...

That should NEVER happen and you should also have a timer that shuts off the motor. Sounds like you need to get rid of it before any real damage is done. Do yourself a favor, take it out now.
