Car starts by itself

I have a 2007 3i and had a remote start installed by a non-dealer shop and occasionally my car starts by itself. Never touched the remote. Last week, it ran all night. I was almost on empty when I went to my car in the morning. Anyone ever have similar problems? The installer says newer versions of the remote require two pushes of the button, so it isn't as easy to hit the start button by mistake. I never touched the remote, so I'm thinking of having it taken out. Thanks.

Go to whoever put the damn thing in and have them fix it. It's obviously not wired right.

LOL I was thinking Maximum Overdrive, but Christine is true too. OP...take it back and have it fixed, no question. either that or have it removed. wasting gas in the middle of the night, you might as well have a bonfire with your money. good luck hope they fix it!

I suspect if it was wired wrong, this would happen constantly, not sporatically. I'd be more likely to suspect an errant frequency in the area that closely matches the one from your remote. It's the same type of thing that causes garage doors to go up and down by themselves. See if the installer can change the frequency or insulate the receiver somehow.

What remote start do you have installed? The avital 4113 is well known for starting by itself. The fix from DEI is a new antenna. As blackcherry mentioned, the problem the avitals were having was with RF interference. I have seen this problem on a viper keyless/starter as well, and I don't do that many remote starts either.

Do you know what your run time is set to? Normal/default run time is usually around 15-20mins. You should be able to change this on your own so if it does start by itself, it won't run too long. Is there an override switch installed?
