Hey guys. Well, I finally did myself in. Going over an overpass, I decided to stop because there was a van in front of me. However, the only problem was...I didn't stop until his trailer hitch was in my front bumper. And I got my first ever ticket. This just sucks. I hate Michigan!!! LOL

Driving to close to the person in front of you.

Driving to fast for the conditions.

All add up to trouble for you, did you learn from it at least?

that sucks, hope your ok
getting tickets for me is like getting up in the morning, i still haven't learned to slow down

you did ur self good, never tailgate, especailly in the winter. how much in damage? u need a bumper iand from what i see u also need a radiator support.

(mswerd) you and me both!

have to leave pleanty of space in bad driving conditions.....sure you learned your lesson.

Ouch man...that sucks. You gotta move to Vegas, the only ice that's down here is the one's I rock on my wrists. (naughty)

Does yours have ABS? I had to come to an emergency stop on a snow covered road the other day...it's the worst feeling ever when your brake pedal is pulsating and pushing up on you and you just hope the car will stop in time.

Well, I'm surprised this didn't happen sooner if you are always driving around with your hood up like that!

I was doing about 25 mph and going over an overpass. Needless to say, I didn't expect traffic to be stopped right on the other side. The overpass has a nice layer of ice. ABS doesn't do S#%T on ice. LOL. All said and done, The body shop wrote out the estimate for $4530.00. Glad I only have a $500 deductible. The good news is, State Farm is going to replace my HID kit. The radiator is smashed all the way into the exhaust manifold. I just hope the engine is ok. After the accident, the car started, but the clutch is pressed all the way to the floor. Strange.

ABS wont make you stop quicker, BUT you can steer your car while braking, which helps you avoid other cars. I find it useful for that.

we just got a mild storm here in jersey and man are people dumb when it comes to driving in the snow. they either drive at 5mph and brake for every little thing or they think they can pull a tommi makkinen and end up in a tree sideways. me i drive relatively normal......as a result of living in maine for 3 years and knowing how to drive in snow.

if i remember correctly P5 tires are terrible in snow. i went up to visit a friend in baltimore a while ago (when i had a p5) and i went straight on into a snow bank. i left a full grill/mazda embelm imprint in there.

Thats true, but they are performance tires...you can't expect them to go good in snow. The P5 is pretty good with a set of winter tires on.

Hey suburbs, where did you get into the accident ? Were you in Lansing ? I definitely second the winter tire combo if you don't have em. Granted, ice is a b**** any way you look at it. I drove the first winter on the stockers and it sucked bad !! I put on some blizzaks this year and they pretty much rule ! Not quite the 4 wheel drive of the wife's Envoy but a HUGE improvement none the less. Who's got the car now ? Is it up at Crippen ?

Light weight p5 + stock tires + ice + overpass + sudden downhill slope = death in a p5. Doesn't matter if you're going 50 or 10. Only difference is the amount of damage that gets done.

That said, good luck getting that s*** resolved.

Hey Yaggie...I live in Lansing and crashed my car on MLK right between the GM plant on that huge overpass. The car got towed to C&T body shop on kalamazoo in downtown Lansing. I have heard from many people that it is a reputable shop. However, if I had known that Crippen had a body shop, I would have taken it there. (scratch) At least this body shop is going to replace my HID kit. Well, gotta go find out how much my ticket is.
