Car Horn = Fail

I bought a 2004 M3 hatch a little over a week ago with 58XXX on it. I've been using the keyless entry to open and close the doors when I enter and leave the car and always hit it twice to get the horn to sound and know it's locked. Well the other day when I clicked it twice, I got no horn, just the lights that flash. I haven't "used" the horn at all while driving and I haven't had the proper time to check so I'm wondering if it's a possible short or maybe I just need to get a new horn before I start playing around. Any ideas?

If it honks on the steering wheel, you might just need to reprogram the remote and turn on the honk option ON which is in your owners manual. If it doesn't honk on the steering wheel, check the fuse. If the fuse is not blown, you might need a new one which should be covered under warranty.

No, it doesn't honk on the steering wheel either which led me to think it was the fuse or a short. I haven't had time to check either of those things and I talked to my Mazda dealer they're probably not going to cover it which blows (unlike my horn). Alright, thanks for the info guys!

well my horn messed up and they covered me with no questions asked i justed sayed that it stopped working i didnt mess with it or nothing and they should be happy with that u didnt mess with it so it broke. broken=warranty (smile)

I suggest you pull the horn and find out if it's the horn itself or the wiring going to it. You can get under there with a multimeter and get someone to hit the steering wheel button while you hold the leads on the wire, or you could just remove the horn and hook it directly to the battery (or a 12v drill battery). If it doesn't go off then the horn itself is dead, and if it does then the problem lies in the car itself. I'm not sure where the horn fuse is, but make sure to check both the fuse box in the engine compt. and the one inside the cabin.

Either way once you figure this all out I suggest upgrading the horn. I don't think you need to throw train horns in it, but you can put in a dual-tone set up which will make it sound like a car not occupied with clowns for about $30.
