I'm sorry if this is a repost of some kind, but I don't recall seeing a thread like this, so here we go. Post any general tips or secrets you have to share about car audio. I saw this done in another forum a while ago, and it turned out to be really helpful for lots of people. I can't really think of anything at the moment, so I'll let someone else start it off.

90% of sound quality is in the install, so either spend the money there to have a pro do it, or REALLY take your time and do it right.

There's no singular secret that's going to make an install spectacular. Rather years of experience show one all of the littlethings that help. There's TONS of them that most who are into it just assume to be common knowledge or practice anymore. The web'll help, lurk and learn, but really, gosh I wouldn't even know where to begin it's an awefully vague topic.

There is only one:
If you don't know exactly what your doing, pay someone who does.

Plan it out, take your time, if it doesnt sound exactly how you want it, dont settle for it. Dont put your car back together without turning on the system, (done it before and its nothing hard, but so damn annoying, specially if you forgot to run a remote wire =\ ) Correct box size for subs, dont forget to take out the thickness of the wood when figuring box size... meh, pretty much all the things ive done before.

That about sums it up...but we'll keep this going for laughs...

1) Disconnect the positive cable from your battery before doing any electrical work on your car.

Also, I find that the road to SQ is 33% planning and matching proper equipment, 33% the equipment you choose, and 33% how you install it. Most people claim its 90% install...true install is important, but not any less important than choosing good equipment (not ghetto bargain basement stuff) and choosing equipment that will work well together (matching amplifier output and subwoofer handling for example).

well I agree, but by saying 90% install thats only assuming you aren't buying equipment at wal-mart.

I know better equipment will produce better SQ... you only need to look at the parts I'm running to see this...

and on a side note, I've bought a 300/4 for the rears and center channel, so I will be bi-amping the focals via the front/rears on the 500/5 now... w00t!

So your only going to give the tweeter 25 watts each?

I'd use the 300/4 to biamp the focals, bridge the front channels of the 500/5 to the center and use the rear channels of the 500/5 for the rear speakers.

1) Measure twice, cut once.

2) Be sure you have enough RCAs and that they are long enough to reach from the HU to the AMP.

3) Dont get that black sticky tar crap anywhere on your person or clothes.

That's all the advice I have.

Ben
